broadcast 'ha ha sound'

Unearthly delights from Birmingham’s finest.

They may be infamous perfectionists, but Birmingham-based Broadcast’s second album doesn’t sound like the product of anal retention. Rather, Ha Ha Sound is like the musical equivalent of one of those flicks where a cute alien comes to Earth. Kooky and cosmic, it’s an album out of place and out of time, as the lyrics boggle with wonder at the weird ways of the world while they use the sounds most people would discard – analogue hums and feedback fuzz – to build a craft back to their spiritual, psychedelic home. (7/10) Paul Clarke 08 August 03

Broadcast - Ha Ha Sound, released 11 Aug 03 on Warp Records.
