German forefathers fail to reach the summit. As the first thing to come from Kraftwerk's legendary Kling Klang studios in twelve years, Tour De France Soundtracks has a lot of weight on its shoulders. Proper album or just a cash-in? Well, let's say a bit of both. Billed as a soundtrack to the Tour De France in this its centenary year, the album contains three slightly tranced-up remixes of the classic single, plus the original. There are also six new tracks, each unmistakably Kraftwerk, with bubbling synth melodies, computer voices and a clinical robo-pop feel. But it's only when the original Tour De France kicks in at the end do you realise what's been lacking: a klassic tune.
