Dubstep dreams. Just as jungle offered giddy inspiration to the likes of Aphex Twin back in the mid-90s, the rapidly ascending dubstep sound is becoming the rhythmical muse of a new generation of electronica producers. On the evidence of the hugely impressive Oneiric, Northern Ireland’s Boxcutter looks set to be the Squarepusher of this new cross-bred sub-genre, his dense, moon-kissed melodies beautifully complementing sneaky beats and lolloping basslines on tracks such as Skuff’d and Tauhid. You want the cutting edge? Here it is. Boxcutter – Oneiric, released 01 May 06 on Planet Mu.

Ordered this off Amazon after reading and listening to this review. Wasn't disapointed already shaping up as one of my albums of the year. Heavy atmospheric dub with moments of delicate beauty, mindblowing bass with a little bit of funk. Like having a little bit of Susumu Yakota, Butch Cassidy Sound System and Lee Perry all on the same album. Id've of given it five dots!
