The Merseysiders prove they really are magic. Almost exactly a year since their astonishingly good debut, the boys from Holylake are back with another offbeat collection of beautifully crafted songs. Less brash and schizophrenic than its predecessor, Magic And Medicine still retains the colourful, eccentric character that made The Coral so wonderful first time round. This time, though, they approach their folk-blues with a defter touch and embrace the sounds of dusty Americana. They’re less angry but they’re still as musically adventurous. This album proves The Coral are a truly great band who, crucially, have longevity.
