Dead good. You could call it serendipity were it not for the fact that – on this mini album they’ve produced together – John Mark Lapham of The Earlies and Micah P Hinson hardly seem overjoyed by the coincidence that they grew up in the same town in Texas, yet only met seven years ago. For Lights From The Wheelhouse is a truly mournful record of funereal strings and organ, beaten-up acoustic guitars and whispering electronics, with Hinson mumbling words like a drunk at alt country’s wake on My Most Meaningful Relationships Are With Dead People. The Late Cord - Lights From The Wheelhouse, released 24 April 06 on 4AD.

This is a fantastic ep. Mournful, melancholic, intensely positive. I'm not sure if it will help me sleep all night or keep me up in fear.

I've only heard 'My most meanigful relationships are with dead people' but it really is glorious, a delightful slice of melancholia, the album is high up on my shopping list, has anyone heard much more to see if the rest of the record reaches these lofty heights?
