the electric six 'fire'

Danger! High Voltage! Silliness on the dancefloor.

It’s puerile and sexist, yet it’s hard to take offence. Although the Detroit band blew their wad on their first single – the ace, yelping disco rock of Danger! High Voltage! – their debut LP is a preposterous, yet highly addictive novelty record which spot-on apes the overblown excesses of poodle-haired stadium rockers, and anyone else the former five-piece (three members have just quit) fancy ridiculing. It promises no depth and delivers none – just incendiary hooks, dance-fuelled stompers and total silliness. Spinal Tap on your stereo. (7/10) Alexia Loundras 27 June 03

Electric Six – Fire, released 30 June 03 on XL Recordings.
