Express yourself on Monica’s bed, at Modern Art Oxford. Monica Bonvicini is an award-winning multi-media installation artist. Anxiety Attack - her first solo exhibition in Britain - deals with her curiosity with the relationship between architecture, the built environment and gender. Bonvicini dismantles the dictates of architecture by using materials like leather and velvet, alongside concrete and steel. She also insists on a physical connection with her art. Tracey Emin flipped her lid when a visitor expressed himself on her bed, but for Bonvicini it’s a must. Her Bedtimesquare creation is a velvet-covered mattress contained within a large stone square. You’re invited to lie on it and “get a feel” for the piece and the space it’s in. You can also swing in the fetishist installation Black, a black leather hammock suspended from the ceiling by chains, in a gallery painted completely, er, black. However, if you prefer a more cerebral experience, you can wander around and take in the large-scale sculptures, video installations and text works.
