king geedorah 'take me to your leader'

B-movie breaks and hip-hop beats.

King Geedorah is the new project from underground hip-hop legend MF Doom. It isn’t, however, your average hip-hop record. Geedorah, you see, is a space monster. The album is a collage of B-movie breaks and cut-and-paste beats, the overall effect being like a hip-hop version of Lost In Space. But as well as the more frivolous vintage samples, there is a more thoughtful side. “This whole album is Geedorah's alien perspective on humans,” says MF Doom. “On the album we cover different subjects ranging from race issues to the neglect of children.” The production is excellent and the subject matter makes for an interesting listen. (8/10) Matt Walton

King Geedorah – Take Me To Your Leader, released 16 June 03 on Big Dada.
