Grandaddy - Sumday (V2)
Grandaddy’s third album finds the Californian alt popsters in a happier place. The band’s lovely guitar-driven, keyboard-embellished tunes are still laced with their trademark fuzzy bleeps, sultry floating harmonies and dreamlike pianos that drift into songs like forgotten smells. But their mood has shifted onto the brighter side. This is a record of beautifully uplifting, melancholy euphoria that settles deep into your heart like a sigh. Filled with warm soul-searching and wry observation, its pangs of deadening sadness only help put the album’s underlying optimism in perspective. Wonderful. Alexia Loundras 06 June 03

Grandaddy - Sumday, released 09 June 03 on V2.
