Klopjob's a good 'un. While his productions may no longer strike awe and drop jaws in the way they once did, this 10-track round-up of last year’s vinyl-only Analord series shows Richard “Aphex Twin” James to be anything but a spent force. A world away from the scatterbrained, super-processed drill’n’bass that has comprised his recent oeuvre, tracks such as Klopjob find James returning to the raw and charismatic acid techno sound that first made his name. It’s a step backwards for sure, but a worthwhile one. AFX - Chosen Lords, released 10 April 06 on Rephlex.

Sorry to correct you cynic but the analord 12" cost about a fiver each it was the leather binder that cost about £50. Also there are roughly 40 tracks over the 11 vinyls released and chosen lords is a mere selection. To really rile the LP lovers he should release them all on CD EP. It's doubtful though.

I love the way he charged all the obsessive vinyl addicts something like £90 a pop and then a few months later puts them all out on a cheap CD compilation. Astute.

I'm having a party on Sunday, so I'll be trying it out. I'll wait until they've had a few drinks first so they've limbered up!

I sort of meant "raw" in the stripped-back, undiddled-with sense rather than the panel-beating, skull-cracking sense, but I hear what you're saying. It's certainly the most danceable thing he's done in years (provided you're a pretty loose-limbed and imaginative dancer).

It's not exactly Donkey Rhubarb, a bit easier on the ear I'd say. I prefer the earlier stuff but this would go down well on a night in with friends.
