Passio - Arvo Part
by: Christian Bodart  Friday 16 May 2003
A cheap purchase from my local bookshop this little religious piece is unfolding its alms into my ears as we speak.

Elevated, the child in me ramming the volume to maximum rather than enjoying it at a suitably contemplative level, this is moving stuff. There is a book here ( http://home.teleport.com/~binder/bible-aft.jpg... ), there is a film here ( http://www.firstthings.com/ftissues/ft9602/iannone... ), there is even a musical here [unsuitable link removed in mercy by author].

Moving stuff, many of us feel more comfortable listening to Arabic or Oriental or Other exotic religious music but the beauty of this cannot be denied.

Poet Rika Lesser ( http://www.unt.edu/untpress/titles/lesserr.htm... ) said in a letter to Part
"Yours is the only music I've ever wanted to live inside. Sometimes I wish that the music would stop, congeal, erect a lasting structure around me, one that would silently vibrate and, resonating, enclose me. Forever."
(stolen from: http://www.touchstonemag.com/docs/issues/15.2docs/... )

I quite agree though I'm at work at the moment so until 5 o 'clock will be just fine
