Tricky - Vulnerable (Anti)
As expected, this seventh album from trip-hop grandad Tricky - aka Bristolian Adrian Thaws - leaks brooding atmospherics and throbbing beats. At it’s best, Tricky’s metal-edged grumble is reduced to a whisper allowing porno-voiced collaborator Constanza Francavilla to dominate: Car Crash is a dreamy number that engulfs you in thick smoky swathes, while the delicate Dear God is windingly hypnotic and The Love Cats cover crackles with tension. But for the most part, this is a dark, moody affair. Never dangerous, just a bit dull. Alexia Loundras 16 May 03

Tricky - Vulnerable, released 19 May 03 on Anti.
