The 2001 debut from Scott Herren (the follow-up to which has just been released) is, as the title may suggest, slightly more vocal-heavy than most Warp releases. The voices are used ingeniously though, cut-up samples appearing as, if not more, often as more traditional MCing.
The vibe is decidedly downtempo, almost understated, but musically this album is extremely accomplished, even if it doesn't bother to make a song and dance about it. Among the highlights are "Eve Of Dextruction", "Afternoon Love In" and "Five Minutes Away", each displaying mastery of subtly-different arts. This is certainly an album to leave you with a smile on your face, especially if you like your electronica on an easy-listening tip... 7.5 / 10
