The future’s bright, the future’s digital. One day, feature films will be passé, outmoded by motion pictures as brief and compelling as the ones on onedotzero_select dvd¹, the first release on digital production company onedotzero’s new label. ![]() The onedotzero annual digifilm festival is the largest of its kind in the world, and this debut DVD features an hour’s worth of rarities/masterpieces from the last six festivals. It also acts as a taster for onedotzero7 (16-25 May 03) at London’s ICA. ![]() Digital technology means that you can now do virtually anything onscreen at a fraction of the old cost, and onedotzero_select dvd¹ proves the point beautifully. Highlights include Tim Hope’s X-ray tube tale Jubilee Line, Shynola’s tender animation The Littlest Robo and Jake Knight’s award-winning live-action short Salaryman 6, which sees the eponymous Tokyo drone trying to piece his life together from the images he finds on his pocket camera. Four of the 16 films are music promos, including FC Kahuna’s stunning Hayling and Prefuse 73’s Half Of What. ![]() The disc has already sold out in Japan, so snap it up now. And if you can’t get to the festival, don’t fret. Collective has been given exclusive rights to stream four of this year’s films, along with the festival trailer and four films from the DVD. Enjoy.
