Primal Scream - Extrmntr (Creation)
“This sleeve has been seen an awful lot. People still come to us about it. I think it really had an impact when it came out because there wasn’t much collage work about, or sleeves that had a similar feel. The removal of vowels came out of a conversation with another designer here at Intro. I was thinking about how barcode stickers in record shops often abbreviate titles - it can often have a militaristic feel, and this was in keeping with the concept for the album. The images come from things the band were referencing in their lyrics. It became a blend of Pop Art images, CNN footage and a PlayStation game. I worked on this in a rather haphazard way: doing rough, primitive cuts in Quark Express, then pasting them together and gradually removing the detritus. I think it looks like a sort of ‘glitch in the program’, a computer virus. The cover has a strong concept behind it and this was expanded when I worked on the inner booklet and accompanying video.”

Stereolab - ABC Music: The Radio 1 Sessions (Strange Fruit)
“With the band being Stereolab and the music being from BBC sessions, I wanted the sleeve to look like a Radiophonic Workshop record, a sort of archive album. This was helped by the fact that I got plenty of additional track information to work with. The band’s name is quite fractured on the front and I don’t know anyone who has looked at the sleeve and got ‘Stereolab’ immediately.”

Broadcast - Pendulum (Warp)
“I was trying to create a much darker sleeve than the one for The Noise Made By People. I began looking towards influences such as Czech surrealism, old Polish film posters and ‘word art’, mixing these with ideas that came from listening to the music. It was possible to work quite intuitively on this record and the concept occurred to me as I progressed.”
