Tommy Guerrero – Soul Food Taqueria (MoWax)
Tommy’s second album again shows his knack for creating a soundtrack of blues-ridden rare soul that would suit a stylish 70s road movie. Probably involving big sunglasses, afros and tight flared trousers. It is, dare I say it, chillout music but it’s far, far cooler, funkier and much more soulful. Though it occasionally drifts towards jazzy noodlings and teeters dangerously close to background lounge, it avoids these pitfuls with a playful, super laid-back swagger and makes for sexy, restful listening.
