It's sad that the Americans let themselves down so badly post 9/11 with the lack of courtesy to foreigners (as many getting through customs since then can testify). It's interesting to note the Chinese security 'please' and 'thank you' communication which is very alien to many Chinese. Living in Cambridge I've had to get used to the several thousand Chinese students who visit the town every year and are regarded as rude by many City residents not because they are rude, but because a massive cultural piece of jig-saw that we expect to fit into any society does not fall into most Chinese student behaviour. I don't want to sound like a Daily Mail reader. I just hope the Olympics grant an opportunity for an understanding of differing cultures which can then be spread to help harmony much further afield! I for one cannot wait for the games and hope to attend much of it. Cannot wait for these games either, i think, and hope, they'll live up to previous standards.
