What are the tips to get us to make our characters more than two dimensional? Some suggestions maybe to:-a) observe and note catch phrases, recurring actions, ways of walking, smiling, making eye contact --b)Becoming our characters for a short time or a complete day and maybe noting down what their reactions would be .c)Place them also in different situations and ask questions about what they would do or say etc.Guidelines such as above are important as well as practice, practice, practice. I think the reason Eastenders is so successful is because their is empathy, depth and emotion to the characters. Character is plot and plot is character. I agree if you can show strong characterisation and impart alot of emotion then its much easier to write convincing dialogue. Out of the concept came characters in my mind who you could connect with on an emotional level.
