You do realise you are as bad as those Daly Mail mentalists who complain about everything that's not Songs Of Praise. As is oft repeated the other two bloggers, neither of which I found funny, are found elsewhere. It's not as if Martin took them out back to be shot. Special 1 TV is good, there's not been much football comedy on TV since Fantasy Football. I am starting the campaign to get rid of Rooney and Eriksson, get in Holloway and someone else. There's so much scope with a Holloway more than with the job-whore Sven (Shut up Sven!). Sat 06 Nov 2010 14:43:34 GMT+1 eggie Lots of in-jokes, the bickering, the topical gags, all great stuff... re the comments regarding the quality of the puppets, surely it would make zero difference if they had Mission Impossible style face masks on or it was a cartoon - the jokes would be exactly the same. I'm shocked that so many football fans (presumably) don't find this funny or at least amusing - everyone I've ever pointed at it over the last 2 years has liked it - but each to their own. I can only think that those comments all posted anonymously by the Cuckoo... Tue 02 Nov 2010 07:02:28 GMT+1 Dave the hedgehog- Doitchampions Comment 112 (rozsmith) Makes very valid points & I would like to suggest that those who wish to see the shows entire archive from it's beginnings as "I'm on setanta sports" up until it's name change to Special1 TV & then onto the promised land of mainstream TV with the BBC.You can access this back catalogue of shows by visiting the website for the Special1 TV production company (Blue elf - caboom) athttp://www.caboom.iewhere you can find a link to the archive on youtube. If some of the naysayers take some time to watch the show from the 1at episode ever (& particularly the 1st season of "I'm on setanta sports" then i feel that many attitudes will be changed as many of the shows IN JOKES originated from those early days. For example... Wenger is "voyeur" because of the controversy over his apparent spying on Chelsea training sessions when Jose was Chelsea manager. & Dave from Newcastle is one of the 1st(spoof) persons to phone in with his obsession about Shola Ameobi & he has been showing up from time to time ever since. Dave is the only non celeb or footy based personality to ever phone Jose on the show.TAKE ALOOK & YOU MAY BE SURPRISED...If however you still don't like it then please leave it to us fans & long term devotees.FOOTNOTE: Many comments have mentioned the Quotes of the week & although i have never seen this section, I would ask that the BBC at least re- consider bringing it back as it seems from the many many comments here that it was extremely well thought of & supported. & the majority have made the point in a decent manner & not in the immature manner that most of the other complainers have tended to use. Sun 31 Oct 2010 19:16:41 GMT+1 rozsmith I love this show having watched it from the start. I do sometimes think though that some of the jokes may be lost on some people who didn't see the old shows. They just won't appreciate how funny the statement 'Ameobi Like' is, because to them it has no context, or referring to Wenger as Voyeur. How can a joke be funny if you don't know what it is. I on the other hand think its - fantastic. Be Champions. Sun 31 Oct 2010 14:37:28 GMT+1 Appo2531 This show is brilliant, i can't praise it enough, those who don't like it should spend their time commenting elsewhere Sun 31 Oct 2010 14:28:47 GMT+1 xbriberx 1st time watching this and it is not that funny. Bring back quotes of the week! Sun 31 Oct 2010 13:36:06 GMT+1 JohnTerrysHardTackle - JA606 is the future Really enjoyed the show, good to have a bit of light hearted banter about football, too much of it on 606 and elsewhere is too heavy. As the guy said, you cant please everyone with comedy, senes of humour are so diverse, but I wouldnt make the mistake of thinking you are in the majority by saying you dont enjoy the show. Most people who enjoy it wont bother posting anything because they like it as it is, they dont want anything changed so why post? Negativity will always have the stronger voice on anything like this.Quite simply, if this isnt your cup of tea, you dont have to watch it. There are plenty of other show/videos for your amusement. Let us enjoy it in peace! Sun 31 Oct 2010 13:04:26 GMT+1 wehateowls that was a was great episode i loved "the thing" between sir alex and jose and sven/it saying "please david for the love of god i need some quality players at this shthole Sun 31 Oct 2010 11:48:46 GMT+1 Riggadon Bottom line is this: I stopped watching the television to get away from cack like this. Now it's turning up on the one website I rely on to give me straight facts with no cack involved. Looks like I'll be wading through a tsunami of brain mush before long. Sat 30 Oct 2010 10:56:01 GMT+1 ancelottiforprimeminister Most out here need to improve their sense of humour-this is side splitting stuff.Yet on the other hand, can we have QOTW back? Many critical cooments haven't been modded.Seems like our zealous mods are on strike!;) Sat 30 Oct 2010 10:11:26 GMT+1 Kyle Hedgley How dull, we need the quotes back please. Sat 30 Oct 2010 10:09:13 GMT+1 Dan "Comedy is a tricky business and you can never please all the people all the time"Fair enough, but when you're pleasing an absolutely minuscule amount of people all the time with this rubbish, sometimes you have to just decide that something isn't funny.---And yet the large number of posts in support of the show suggests otherwise. If I (or many other people, I should imagine) wrote messages about every single tv show / film that I didn't find funny, I wouldn't get much else done in life. Just don't bother.Either enjoy the show, or appreciate that many others do and move on.. Sat 30 Oct 2010 09:28:28 GMT+1 Captain Cook The show is amusing. It remains to be seen if it can be consistently funny. But then the items it 'replaced' had weak weeks. I can think of other items at the BBC that might have been cut other than RoW etc. But S1TV is a laugh and The takes on recent events are spot on. Sat 30 Oct 2010 09:05:43 GMT+1 Fonzerella It's not funny. At all. In the slightest. Not only that but as a media junkie I can remember when Loaded magazine did a similar (but very low budget) video slot on the internet called `Football Bumbaclart` must have been about seven, eight, ten years ago now. They used teddy bears and soft toys with exactly the same format!! this the same people? There was one when Patrick Viera was getting sent off all the time and believed he was Bruce Lee reincarnated I can was also very rude/outrageous, but at least it was funny! Sat 30 Oct 2010 08:40:33 GMT+1 Dave the hedgehog- Doitchampions NOTE: ANYONE WANTING TO COMPLAIN ABOUT THIS NOT BEING A TYPICAL BLOG PLEASE READ COMMENT NUMBER 50, AS IT EXPLAINS THE BBC POSITION & THE CONCEPT PERFECTLY.Cheers Martin (chuffty Sat 30 Oct 2010 08:39:17 GMT+1 KirkstallOwl This is embarrassingly woeful, it baffles me that the BBC even considered airing this Sat 30 Oct 2010 08:25:23 GMT+1 Dave the hedgehog- Doitchampions @geordie2004 I would just like to point out that liking the show & disliking the blog is fine - but the amount of folk whinging (not once but many times) re- the removal/replacement of previous blogs is plainly pointless & causing unnecessary conflict & that is not what the show or blog is about.& i will repeat for those who have not read the previous posts that the previous moderation was because the situation was plainly getting out of hand & as i have also said before THIS BLOG SUPPORTS THE SHOW & IS PRIMARILY AIMED AT FANS OLD & NEW. & IMHO @Geordie2004, i think it is pretty crass for anyone to state what a blog should or shouldn't be - blogs come in all forms shapes & sizes & there isn't a rule book (nor should there be).I have no qualms with people not liking the blog or the show but PLEASE complain to the correct department & stop trying to continue to make this an issue in THIS comments section as it is spoiling & deflecting from what the true purpose is. & that is for fans to leave questions & even CONSTRUCTIVE criticism of Special1 TV - " This show sucks" & other such comments are definitely not in that category. This blog has been running for a short few weeks & quite frankly folk have slated it due to the disappearance of what they are used to, also most of them have not even given it a fair chance to develop.Last weeks phone messages skit was new & inspired. So judge the blog on the show & content & try not to hate/complain here JUST BECAUSE "IM A LICENSE PAYER" (yawn) which is something that has been said ad nauseum since the blog began & got heavily moderated.I am NOT glad that the previously deleted posts were re-instated as it shows indecision by the mods (who i previously praised for doing it).As Martin (the big boss) has stated (comment 40) - it is not possible to keep every license payer happy (especially where comedy is concerned) Lets just all be champions PLEASE.....Can't we all just get along ???? Sat 30 Oct 2010 08:18:45 GMT+1 Michael Sandiford Absolutely brilliant and as far as I'm concerned it should be shown just before Match of the Day. Amazed at how narky some people are acting. Don't like it, don't watch it. Sat 30 Oct 2010 07:02:58 GMT+1 jonahmona mmmmmmm octopussssssssss Sat 30 Oct 2010 06:38:03 GMT+1 4now genius. so good to see this back. Sat 30 Oct 2010 05:52:42 GMT+1 northernsuperspur For anyone that still doesnt understand, let me make the complaint quite clear. As a blog, this just doesnt work. The television sketch works perfectly well, and I personally find it funny. What I and I suspect most others object to is the attempt to turn it into a humorous blog, with no actual humour involved. If you want to give us a link to the programme on the sports website, then fine, but don't pretend its some sort of blog that suggests either insight or entertainment. The fact that the blog has been reduced little more than a link after only a couple of entries tends to suggest that someone at the BBC is actually taking notice of the feedback, at any rate. Sat 30 Oct 2010 05:52:16 GMT+1 what a shot Firstly i have to say that i love the show and thought this weeks episode was great again. I think this type of blog needs to be given time and then the majority of people will start liking it. People need to give it a chance, if you definitely don't like it then don't comment on it. It's only once a fortnight anyway.I was never a fan of the Robbo Robson blog, it was dull at best. This is far better than that. However, i think the majority of users on this website would love to see 'Quotes of the Week' back, it was always an amusing read, especially when Wenger or Rafa were in full flow. Although to be fair, it virtually would have been a blog about Ian Holloway had you done it this year! Sat 30 Oct 2010 02:15:26 GMT+1 ArsenalF1 The Thing is Jose taking over at United after Fergie retires right..? Sat 30 Oct 2010 01:36:49 GMT+1 Geordie2004 Since a bunch of people now seem to be throwing mud in the direction of 'haters', which I guess includes myself, I'd just like to point out that, as previously stated by several others including myself, we like the videos, we just find the usage of a 'blog' post (when it clearly isn't one) to promote it to be a bit, well, stupid, irritating and just plain not funny. Also, I echo the sentiments of post #47 which stated that the kind of moderation applied earlier to this 'blog' (my original intention on coming back to this discussion was to focus on pointing out how wrong that is after my first post here was initially deleted, though I see it has now been restored, along with many others) and last week's edition is just not appropiate for a publicly funded organisation like the BBC. To try and basically eliminate your negative feedback in such a way under the pretence of censorship is nothing short of pathetic, morally wrong and quite possibly illegal. For shame. Sat 30 Oct 2010 00:58:45 GMT+1 nigelnisbet Free and very funny - what's not to like? Keep them coming! Love it. Mario Rosenstock, the brains behind it, has been coming up with genius football comedy for years, often with some excellent insight. Some comments can only be made under the guise of comedy. Fri 29 Oct 2010 20:45:03 GMT+1 FoxesofNuneaton The Special 1 was on Setanta wasnt it?And look what happened to Setanta....not long until this goes the same way! Fri 29 Oct 2010 20:42:13 GMT+1 Nat_Grosheva Fantastic as usual!!!! Fri 29 Oct 2010 20:11:31 GMT+1 freddawlanen Another quality video from the Special 1, it's a pity it's only fortnightly as there is more genuine comedy here than the average night on BBC3 and more football "debate" than most other blogs. Please bring back Quotes Of The Week though and to those who comment that they don't like the Special 1. SHUT UP Fri 29 Oct 2010 18:32:13 GMT+1 wehateowls @40 - thank god chuffy for that and if you want to reminse about a robbo and cc then make a message board and talk to heart content. stop bad mouthing special 1 tv and trying make the BBC think again about the commison of special 1 tv Fri 29 Oct 2010 18:27:43 GMT+1 Bannedforanopinion Think its pretty good. The comedy is well laid out.Might boost it even more if you ship loads of 'errrrms' onto the Wayne character and add a few W's for R's for Woy Hwodgson.A few people on here may need to sharpen up a bit. It's no wonder the aussies call us 'whinging poms'!Its definately very british to have such a positively negative mental attitude.. Fri 29 Oct 2010 18:16:07 GMT+1 Gareth Im glad robbo's gone, it was rubbish, about time their was some decent sports parody. Personally I think some people who just come on here to criticise really need a sense of humour transplant. I personally find it hilarious and love watching these episodes. My only gripe is that I was also a big fan of Robbo's blog - is it too much to ask of the bbc to have them both or am I just being greedy there? Fri 29 Oct 2010 17:40:50 GMT+1 waldovski Yes! More video and less blog please. Much less. Fri 29 Oct 2010 17:04:31 GMT+1 Im_partial Ha, good to see the return of Wayne's Word and Dave's love for Ameobi, Like. Good stuff, but the Holloway voice needs some major work. Fri 29 Oct 2010 17:03:51 GMT+1 chrisdeyerd .... but quite funny - Wayne Rooney expounding on rapprochement works -but why are they wearing gloves?!! Fri 29 Oct 2010 16:54:16 GMT+1 Virtuet I thought it was OK quite clever untill I heard the Holloway impersonation who has a broad Bristol accent, but he was made to sound more like an American. Fri 29 Oct 2010 16:52:38 GMT+1 EnglandBeckham7 I don't understand all the negativity about this 'blog'. I really loved Special 1 TV on Setanta, and was THRILLED to see that BBC brought it back for the world cup! I did really like Robbo Robson's blog, and was sad to see it go, but his twitter feed is just as funny as his blog was, so we're not missing too much. Kudos to the BBC for trying something new this season. It is never a good thing when your regular site (for me it is BBC Sport Football) becomes incredibly predictable. "Blog on Monday, Live updates on Saturday, Lawro's Predictions on Friday etc. etc."So thank you BBC for bringing a bit of humour back to the serious world of football ;)Be Champions! Fri 29 Oct 2010 16:46:46 GMT+1 The Understudy - Makoun the Passmaster Do you reckon he had to choose between two octopus-shaped coffins? Fri 29 Oct 2010 16:43:15 GMT+1 chrisdeyerd those puppets are rubbish - is that meant to be Wayne Rooney?!!! Bo Selecta's Michael Jackson looks more like Wayne Rooney than that - bring back Spitting Image. sigh....... Fri 29 Oct 2010 16:41:32 GMT+1 rastafairy Chuffty (OFFS), could you please explain exactly what it is that the producers POUR over the comments?Or maybe you meant that they PORE over them? (meaning "examine closely"). Fri 29 Oct 2010 16:29:32 GMT+1 Lork the video was hilariousthe moaners are boring and should be doing something better with their minutes. Fri 29 Oct 2010 15:41:04 GMT+1 EbbsfleetFC Its incredible that people waste their own precious time complaining on here about this, that and the other being withdrawn.I, for one. have followed this programme since the days of I'm on setanta sports. Ok, it doesnt quite hit the mark every week, but for the majority of the time its funny and very entertaining. The phone in section is especially funny, digging at Sven (pimping himself), Wenger (voyeur)/Fergie & Benitez wind ups are/were funny, roy keane - fair play to...., big mick, didier drogba and roman all calling in too. Thats without the afore mentioned Dave 'shola ameobi like' from Newcastle and becks/tom cruise. So to all you haters..... SHUT UP NUMPTIES. Fri 29 Oct 2010 15:33:49 GMT+1 ClaretTee Agree with a lot of people about missing the Quotes of The Week section. I'd told loads of people about earlier in the year and then it disappeared. OK with Robbo packing his bags even though he had occasional gems in his ramblings. Not sure that this is the best thing to replace what's gone though. I will bear with it to see if it improves but surely it wouldn't be a big stretch to bring back the Quotes. Any chance of this happening? Fri 29 Oct 2010 15:25:39 GMT+1 Closealdo Brilliant stuff. Keep up the good work Special1 AND BBC. Fri 29 Oct 2010 15:22:50 GMT+1 Legends-of-Football I'm sorry but if I dont like milk, or a field, or a cow, then i dont try it once a fortnight then moan about how much I dont like it.. I either dont try it again or I get on with it. People have far too much hate and time to be moaning about bringing back someone/something that was equally as pointless...Lots of loveWillie EkerslikeXxx Fri 29 Oct 2010 15:18:11 GMT+1 Holloway2Holland I watched the whole backlog of clips last week, I thought they were good, had some real laughes in them. As did this weeks episode. I'll be looking forward to the next one. Fri 29 Oct 2010 14:52:00 GMT+1 mac_knife It wasn't that bad to be honest and I'm sure it appeals to many. However, I don't think it needs a comments section as it's hardly a blog and doesn't encourage any sort of debate. As for the cancelled blogs... I still read Robbo regularly as I always enjoy them, but I do understand why it was pulled. Simple reason is, a select few of his fans took it over to chat about 'whatever', and the topic of the blog was lost. It simply couldn't continue. They blame the BBC for taking him away but ultimately it was their own fault for ruining any/all discussion/debate for everyone else.Chris Charles however is a different matter, it should never have been stopped and was a definate highlight of the BBC website every week. Fri 29 Oct 2010 14:47:56 GMT+1 Rob Wow... I have been away on leave for a few weeks, and I don't regularly check the bbc website when I'm not in work, so I seem to be behind the times, but surely I must be mis-reading this blog? This tripe has replaced the Robbo Robson blog? Is this some kind of joke? The irony is it's funnier than the blog itself. I haven't seen the tv show, but based on this article (and I read the older "cows staying in the field" blog aswell) I won't be rushing to watch it. Bring Robbo back. At least that was a football discussion, and he always made me laugh. This is jsut shocking. Fri 29 Oct 2010 14:39:28 GMT+1 CoalitionOfTheWilting "Comedy is a tricky business and you can never please all the people all the time"Fair enough, but when you're pleasing an absolutely minuscule amount of people all the time with this rubbish, sometimes you have to just decide that something isn't funny. Fri 29 Oct 2010 14:34:40 GMT+1 smellslikesalmon OK, now most of the moderated comments have been brought back so I retract the 'Stalinist' accusation but not sure what has been going on with the moderation here. Earlier on 95% of the posts had been removed. Fri 29 Oct 2010 14:18:53 GMT+1 smellslikesalmon Martin: Thanks for coming on here to explain the decision. I will probably watch it in future. I agree that this is not the place to discuss 'Robbo' etc (if the Sports Editor ever does another blog I guess he'll get it there), but I don't understand why only positive feedback is allowed. The moderation has been exceptionally Stalinist, and I doubt this comment will make it either.I think this sort of moderation is unacceptable in a publicly-funded organisation. Fri 29 Oct 2010 14:16:00 GMT+1 Egulle @ Chuffty/Martini think the point is that not many people appreciate this blog. old ones way better Fri 29 Oct 2010 14:14:30 GMT+1 Colchester_FC I totally agree with Jacks that this isn't the place to call for the return of other blogs but is a place to discuss the Special 1 blog. I am on the side of those who do not find it funny but I do like the fact that the person responsible has had the guts to post defending the decision to have this on the BBC website (Post 40). Well done Martin. if only some of the other bloggers on the BBC would answer criticisms in the same way (no name's mentioned of course but the Chief Sports Writer springs to mind). I personally won't be reading the blog again or watching the TV show but it seems that it does appeal to some of the people who post on here. And as Martin rightly says "you can never please all the people......" Fri 29 Oct 2010 13:58:27 GMT+1 ChocolateBoxKid Terrible Fri 29 Oct 2010 13:44:48 GMT+1 SS11 The mods have gone to zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz Fri 29 Oct 2010 13:34:15 GMT+1 SS11 The followers of Special 1's blog only have 2 things to say1) the episode was good2) find some other place if you want to talk about Robbo & CCApart from that there's nothing to discuss. Fri 29 Oct 2010 13:25:56 GMT+1 Billy Pilgrim Good stuff, certainly better than last week. Keep it up. Fri 29 Oct 2010 13:18:33 GMT+1 Chuffty I’m the guy at BBC Comedy who commissioned Special1 TV for this season and I thought I’d just give a bit of background. We always really loved Special 1 TV, it made us laugh and we jumped at the opportunity to bring it to the BBC for the World Cup. It got a great response and we wanted to continue for the new season. Having spoken to our colleagues at BBC Sport, who liked the show too, it seemed that it would make sense to make a home for it in their website, closer to football fans and we hoped new fans of Special1 TV. We will be putting out a show every two weeks throughout the season with it being exclusively available online on the Friday and then showing it on the channel on the Saturday. So you see it here first. As we are only doing it every two weeks we think that a blog post in the intervening weeks is a good idea and hope that we may get some exclusive audio from the Special 1 too. It is not a traditional blog, we are just trying something new. The show has a really strong online following and the producers pour over the comments, tweets and messages and this helps make the show what it is so please keep them coming. However the show is never going to be something that it is not and there are after all some great blogs on the site for general football debate.Comedy is a tricky business and you can never please all the people all the time nor should you try. All we hope is that you can take the show for what it is and that hopefully it will make you laugh. ThanksMartin Fri 29 Oct 2010 13:15:02 GMT+1 Yasin this was an ok video.some of the things said were funny.what is unfair is all the negative comments are moderated. Fri 29 Oct 2010 13:13:53 GMT+1 CONMEBalls Very funny again. Fri 29 Oct 2010 12:26:49 GMT+1 Evil-Weazel As a half Tractor Boy/half Geordie I'd love to repeat calls for a Roy Keane character and Dave from Newcastle is spot on too!Now if only some sporting animal could die every week then this blog might be ok. Fri 29 Oct 2010 12:22:37 GMT+1 jacksofbuxton Now then(to coin a phrase)as a groupie of Robbo and Chris Charles I'd like to offer a suggestion.Robbo and Chris are still available elsewhere.Robbo on blogspot,CC through the football league website. Now whilst this isn't my cup of tea there are obviously plenty of people that enjoy it.When Robbo was visited by people complaining we had the standard response of "if you don't like it,don't read it"So how about we leave the bring back Robbo stuff and leave the Special 1(!)to those that enjoy it.
