Fri 11 Jul 2008 11:41:01 GMT+1 mindclearly Jonnie - I'm with you, but following a similar discussion with my better half, she was pointing towards the fgact that we, which could be you and me in this case, can choose and afford to change our vehicals.2 Issues from here start, 1. people who are strapped for cash have spend money on a vehcle which they will be paying for over the next five years could be hit with an additional 200 quid from their VED and can not afford plus the cost of their vehical drops which put them in a dire straits position. 2. I feel that this has been purposely ignored by the motor trade as I knew, when I got my latest vehical two half years ago, that this was what will happen to VED in the future and the motoring sales people have not been providing correct advice similar the morgages that were mis-sold and so you could point to the motor indusrty who should be subsidising this downfall?? Fri 11 Jul 2008 08:19:25 GMT+1 jonnie I see Rupert has already been bought Bigsis:-)I can't see what all this Road tax fuss is about personally? A year two listening to ED I - here on the blog - and now I'm paying £15 for a family car?Any of you out there with gas guzzlers - get em in Autotrader ASAP!It can only get worse. Thu 10 Jul 2008 23:48:09 GMT+1 Lady_Sue 15. (Big Sis) Monty is totally divine and I'm sure you wouldn't sell him if offered squillions. BTW: did anyone hear the news bulletin where, after 40 years, scientists think there might have been water on the moon.... Not that I'm trying to steer the conversation or anything. Thu 10 Jul 2008 19:44:07 GMT+1 Hugh_Z_Hackenbach This whole idea of using tax to 'steering people onto green cars' is unmitigated tosh! It’s about tax revenue, that's why the government want to backdated it to 2001. If this or any other government really wanted to move us along the green path they would, ensure that all new cars with low emissions, high fuel economy (including when accelerating) attracted ZERO tax.Or, take responsibility for the nation's transport infrastructure and provide an integrated, effective public transport system. Still, no tax revenue in that, is there? Thu 10 Jul 2008 17:16:25 GMT+1 mygloriousleader Why as the 'doggie in the window' was playing did my mind create a picture of a soppy looking dog with Lordy Gordys fizzog superimposed over the face looking out of a window from 10 dunces street... looking like he didn't have a clue as to what was going on.hmmmn Thu 10 Jul 2008 17:01:05 GMT+1 beebadger "How Much Is That Doggie In The window" is supposed to be one of Margaret Thatcher's favourite songs. Typical, interested in the price of everything and not their value. Thu 10 Jul 2008 16:59:24 GMT+1 U11235707 Talk about stereo-typing of serial killers; which of the 72 female killers listed in wikipedia made the best husbands? Thu 10 Jul 2008 16:54:16 GMT+1 Big Sister Monty says he's not for sale ;o) Thu 10 Jul 2008 16:48:39 GMT+1 The Stainless Steel Cat Never mind the "How Much Is That Doggie In The window" woman hating the song, why not ask reporter Stephanie Power whether she hates Freeway the dog after all those years acting with him? Thu 10 Jul 2008 16:46:01 GMT+1 Patrick Too On the news pages yesterday:"The cost of motoring has fallen by 18% in real terms over the past 20 years, despite the price of fuel rising by 210% in that time, an RAC report says."'ve never had it so good! Ha ha! :) Thu 10 Jul 2008 16:43:32 GMT+1 Hugh_Z_Hackenbach SequinHow can the PM team believe that Sepp Blatter's opinion, on whether a very highly paid soccer player should be allowed out of his contract, as newsworthy? Thu 10 Jul 2008 16:38:01 GMT+1 Thunderbird I was only suggesting that rather than talk about moon rocks and their previous contact with water we should discuss the by-election and more importantly the list of candidates.I think it make our system look silly Thu 10 Jul 2008 16:35:17 GMT+1 Fifi I'm with you on that one, Milord Bedd .. it was uncomfortable listening, in the way that restraining oneself from screaming at the radio and throwing things at it is uncomfortable.Good for you Sequin, doing an Eddie (ie letting her snatch the rope from you to hang herself) rather than snarling back as you must have felt like doing. I could almost see your eyebrows rising like twin jump-jets.... Thu 10 Jul 2008 16:34:55 GMT+1 harrybuttle Hi all, i'm new to this so apology's for mistakes. Does anybody else find the debate about raising tax on cars a little narrow? Surely all of the tax we pay is just about raising money to fight wars, (which use rather alot of fuel themselves), if there was care for the environment, and peoples quality of life, we would be world leaders in alternative energy, low emission transport systems and the like. Thu 10 Jul 2008 16:32:06 GMT+1 lordBeddGelert Hmm.. I did have some sympathy with Angela Eagle asking not to be interrupted until she then started talking over sequin, refusing to give way, not answering the question and generally speaking with the most annoying nasal whine I've ever heard in my life !! Shouldn't someone invest in some speech training or public speaking practice for her ?? She made some valid points, but she is going to lose any sympathy the public may have for her with her hectoring, rude and schoolmarmish approach - she ain't gonna persuade anyone of the need to reduce their carbon footprint with that patronising, condescending tone of voice !! And I though Harriet Harpy was bad... Thu 10 Jul 2008 16:27:23 GMT+1 U11204129 British army torturers. What's our excuse this time? They weren't equipped well enough? It was a case of mistaken identity. The victims were ordinary people mistaken for terrorists?Which general in 'Catch 22' is it who can't see the point of being a general if he can't have anyone shot? There is an interesting connection between Menezes and these torturers. If you want to put the fear of Christ up people you torture them and shoot one or two.Torturing people without any information is always useful. It makes everybody try to acquire some, just in case it's them picked up.Shooting some innocent tube commuter has it's uses too. It shows how tough we are, boys, how much we mean business and it's good practice and it's much safer.Afterwards, after the job is done, and we have stamped on the neck of freedom and decency, we explain that it was all an unfortunate mistake and that it's nonsense to say the perpetrators shared a wish to torture and to kill with the society they represent. After all, afterwards, the job has been done. We've terrified the wits out of everyone in a community, without, in the case of Menezes, harming a single member. Then, oh boy, do we apologise, say our systems work perfectly, and are genuinely sorry. That's the beauty of it. We feel the benefit without the guilt. My father suffered as a result of blowing the whistle on torture of German soldiers in NI during WW2. Now, we're sorry, then it had to be done. Thu 10 Jul 2008 16:23:51 GMT+1 Thunderbird wow I've been snipped Thu 10 Jul 2008 16:19:10 GMT+1 Thunderbird Nigel, the answer to the question is no, we don't care.Let's talk about something funny, how abot the list os candidates for the by-election today.Any other country looking into it would think the whole place is run by retards.Ahhhhh. Thu 10 Jul 2008 15:59:45 GMT+1 Lady_Sue Don't ask me Nigel - but it's a good point. Very quiet on the blog tonight... Thu 10 Jul 2008 15:57:28 GMT+1 Hugh_Z_Hackenbach Lady_Sue (1)1. Lots2. Nope! Thu 10 Jul 2008 15:57:20 GMT+1 Nigel_N Lady Sue: Can we be sure that the rocks have not become contaminated with or damaged by earth's water during the past forty years of storage? Thu 10 Jul 2008 15:41:44 GMT+1 Lady_Sue Sequin - you did miss something! There was a news report this morning that, after 40 year working on moon rocks, scientists have discovered that, three billion years ago, there might have been water on the moon. Two questions: 1. Any ideas how much money was spent on analysing this over the past 40 years?2. Does anybody care? Thu 10 Jul 2008 15:34:49 GMT+1
