Terribly clever, particularly when they write their own (in this case) detective story in the style of the author - I note Sid enjoyed those too. Sid, I take your point about the two messes. Just shows I don't pay attention. As soon as I hear the words 'government' or 'politics' I tend to switch off. Agree that the techies must have been on tea-break - I was also amused that the entire "puff" for Martha's show played till the end. Much longer than a minute, surely? SidCouldn't find the errant trail on Listen Again - but Sebastian Faulks' pastiche is worth a listen ... Lady Sue"Stuff of nightmares for the BBC techies, I would have thought. "Except apparently none of them were listening! They got through the whole trail without anyone noticing - must have been a minute - I wonder if it's on listen again? Big SisterYes, I heard it too ... not sure how you'd make Proust exciting, though! (I did like the pastiches at the end.) Lady SueThere are two messes, Lady Sue- the international uncertainty caused by the near-collapse of the banks and their rescue by governments etc, and the massive over-spending by the UK government (borrowing £1 out of every £4 they were spending). The last government were not responsible (entirely) for the first, but they were undoubtedly entirely responsible for the second. Gordon Brown tried to make out that the whole thing is all one mess, and caused by the banks - but he would, wouldn't he? Wed 20 Oct 2010 10:04:20 GMT+1 Big Sister http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/pm/2010/10/the_upshares_downshares_cd_the.shtml?page=71#comment15 Yes, Sue, I heard that too. Mind you, it added a bit of humour to an otherwise rather boring programme, don't you think? ;o) Wed 20 Oct 2010 09:39:19 GMT+1 Lady_Sue http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/pm/2010/10/the_upshares_downshares_cd_the.shtml?page=66#comment14 Whoops! Should have said (so as not to be 'off topic') that mine @14 followed up annasee's comment about programme problems. I am also terribly bored with the 'Coalition Governement' (why do reporters keep referring to it like this, as though there are several they might choose from?) blaming the previous Government for an 'inherited financial mess'. How much longer are they going to continue to accuse the previous government for what is an international mess? Would someone (Eddie, Martha?) please pull them up on it at the next available opportunity? Many thanks. Wed 20 Oct 2010 09:38:27 GMT+1 Lady_Sue http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/pm/2010/10/the_upshares_downshares_cd_the.shtml?page=61#comment13 Did anyone else hear the odd "double broadcast" at c.18.35 last night? A long plug for Martha's programme today overlapping 'The Write Stuff'? Stuff of nightmares for the BBC techies, I would have thought. Wed 20 Oct 2010 09:35:10 GMT+1 annasee http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/pm/2010/10/the_upshares_downshares_cd_the.shtml?page=57#comment12 I think Eddie should have made it clear that any problems on the programme tonight were entirely due to the mess he inherited from The World at One.
