It's so refreshing to hear Hugh's reports & see his photos of 'real life' when we usually only see Afghanistan depicted as sand & heavily armed soldiers. Thanks Hugh Wed 18 Nov 2009 10:39:08 GMT+1 Lord Nathan http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/pm/2009/11/hugh_sykes_in_afghanistan.shtml?page=54#comment12 Sorry, No progress;-( Wed 18 Nov 2009 02:13:00 GMT+1 Lord Nathan http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/pm/2009/11/hugh_sykes_in_afghanistan.shtml?page=50#comment11 This post has been Removed Wed 18 Nov 2009 01:06:05 GMT+1 Sid http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/pm/2009/11/hugh_sykes_in_afghanistan.shtml?page=45#comment10 Thanks Hugh - great stuff. In my opinion all foreign forces should leave Afghanistan. If Afghanistan decides to hold elections then it's up to them. If not they should sort out their own system without outsiders trying to impose a system that is neither understandable to them nor applicable in our own situation. And if the Afghans decide that they don't want the oil pipeline then so be it.Jim Tue 17 Nov 2009 21:50:33 GMT+1 needsanewnickname http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/pm/2009/11/hugh_sykes_in_afghanistan.shtml?page=36#comment8 I was impressed by the bread. Great wordsmith and writer Hugh :-) Tue 17 Nov 2009 18:22:10 GMT+1 jonnie http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/pm/2009/11/hugh_sykes_in_afghanistan.shtml?page=27#comment6 A sobering and worrying report from Hugh, with words like stalemate and civil war said once to often. Thanks Hugh. You can feel the invigorating chill. Is it my imagination or are these adults much more serious than those you have met in other parts of Afghanistan, Hugh? Sombre is the word that comes to mind. But the boys respond to you, and remind us that life goes on, and where there is life there is hope.Hijrat should be congratulated. And it's lovely to think that marbles are so universal. I'll think of Hirjat when I next watch my little stepgrandsons playing with their marbles.Keep warm, Hugh - and keep safe! Asalamu alaykum! They sap morale. The omens are bad Tue 17 Nov 2009 17:42:20 GMT+1 nikki noodle http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/pm/2009/11/hugh_sykes_in_afghanistan.shtml?page=9#comment2 A great and thoughtful piece, thankyou Hugh! He is living in cloud cuckooland. The Taliban don't do "constitutional framework"The Taliban don't do "exit strategy"The Taliban don't do "political strategy The Taliban don't do "peacefully...." etcThey have a plan after his so called "exit strategy". They will just walk in. They have plentymundo time. The only language they used is the AK47 and IEDs thanks our venture in Iraq. Iraqi insurgents have exported their IED knowledge to Taliban via Al-qaida. Its like the Stinger missiles - deadly Tue 17 Nov 2009 17:35:03 GMT+1 Lady_Sue http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/pm/2009/11/hugh_sykes_in_afghanistan.shtml?page=0#comment0 Hugh your photos are so wonderful - I look forward to hearing a report that might dovetail with these.
