Friday night show -hands off BEEB we love Adrian - as for Chris Evans leave him on the radio we had enough of him years ago! Tue 16 Mar 2010 19:17:49 GMT+1 Sheila Hi Christine, Congratulations, well done, you are an inspiration to all those that are meeting a challenge and finding it hard. Have a great and restful weekend. The money you have raised will truly be used for those that have so much need. Having been to Uganda we can understand your enthusiam and love for the people. Take Care Glod Bless Christopher and Sheila Pickett XXX Fri 12 Mar 2010 19:45:24 GMT+1 UR0not11111010 77# Yes I agree about the Press. I do wonder about the dm, especially the comments I have read today about Christine eg. Some saying she should be made a Dame !! It only takes one person to say a thing and thousands will follow. Yes she has now achieved it, Well done, but at what cost to the Licence Payer? IF we were told the true Cost of this Event, wouldn't that be fair? The Boats,The Fuel,The Lessons, The Medical Team, All the Trainers and Staff,Camera Crews etc., was it Free as some People believe? I doubt this very much but then I would be asked "How do I know" Also with the event being so over done it has overshadowed all the other participants in their Charity endeavours. Oh thank goodness it is nearly over, I hope !! Fri 12 Mar 2010 18:42:34 GMT+1 tyroneshoelaces 77 danrdwellerTrue. Sadly for her and after the JT nonsense, it just needs one slip for them to pounce. We are judged by the company we keep, no matter how clean we are.. Fri 12 Mar 2010 16:41:19 GMT+1 Danedweller #76 tyroneshoelaces. One thing for sure we can guarantee from the British press, they enjoy building them up really high, and at the first opportunity they get even more pleasure knocking them down. Fri 12 Mar 2010 16:34:05 GMT+1 tyroneshoelaces 75 danedwellerAgree with you re L.Dallaaglio and his effort. I do think CB did tremendously well as it must have been quite scary. It's just the wall to wall CB that worries me.It's strange with the DM, in that anything about her, particularly since her private life went high profile, is printed within minutes, yet the same rag is printing readers letters complaining about her over exposure. Clearly her p.r. is close to the DM. Fri 12 Mar 2010 16:27:50 GMT+1 Danedweller #74 tyroneshoelacesCompletely agree with your sentiments.Listening to Dallaglio this morning, who has just completed his marathon cycle ride around Europe totalling 2888km, his achievement sits comfortably alongside that of Helen Skelton. I looked on he DM website to read about Dallaglios story, unfortunately nothing reported, but a full spread on CB within minutes of her completing her EPIC 22 miles. It would nice if TOS gathered a few other SR fund raisers along to the studio. Fri 12 Mar 2010 15:56:55 GMT+1 tyroneshoelaces #72 strictlydancefanYou are quite wrong to suggest that the more exposure the more money for charity. Many people get charity fatigue. No one is condemning Christine for what she did this morning - in itself it was a fantastic effort and deserves applause. Many people felt that the amount of attention it was getting was giving more attention to the person herself rather than the cause. Helen Skelton canoed for 6 weeks, yes 6 weeks, and most only realised that after she had done it. You cannot deny that the association of CB to this challenge through The One Show, the press attention with this and her private life has raised her 'profile' greatly. Many people on this blog have worried what came first, the charity or herself. I would like to believe that her motives were altruistic. Fri 12 Mar 2010 15:13:46 GMT+1 Danedweller Seeing the photographs of CB's in the DM it is hard to believe she had just waterskied 22 miles, across the channel. Hardly a hair out of place and full makeup. Will there by any mention on TOS of Dallaglios 2880km cycle ride around Europe? probably not. Fri 12 Mar 2010 14:19:15 GMT+1 Strictlydancefan Ref bwoods30 Christine is just a money grabber she has no credibility at all.I didn't realise that you know Christine personally and know her well which makes you 'in the know' to make such remarks.I admit I do not know her and therefor can only comment on what I see and hear myself - all I see is someone who wanted to raise money to help others less fortunate than the rest of us. Fri 12 Mar 2010 13:41:19 GMT+1 Jaqi Wright Never having watched this show (as Im not usually sat down at the time its on), I was told David Essex would be a guest this week. I have watched the show every evening waiting to see David Essex. As always he was charming, polite and very easy to listen too. However he wasnt given as much time as I had hoped, which was a huge shame. Im sure there are many dissapointed fans out there for whom the time passed all too quickly.Next time ( and I hope there is a next time) let him have a more active contribution please, hes such a lovely man and I for one would like to see him on TV alot more. Thank you. Fri 12 Mar 2010 13:31:23 GMT+1 Jen David Essex - still looking good - love the songs - keep going Luv Jen xx Fri 12 Mar 2010 12:52:06 GMT+1 bwoods30 @68I would rather give all my license fee to charity than suffer yet another so called star on a huge wage paid for with my hard earned cash trying to get further up the ladder by doing a lot of work for charity. As for as am concerned the BBC is a charity just like our useless MP's they rob of the poor so they can take the cream. Christine is just a money grabber she has no credibility at all. Fri 12 Mar 2010 11:47:27 GMT+1 Strictlydancefan Why all the nasty comments directed towards Christine? Are all you people who feel free to slate Christine for her fundraising efforts doing more than she has? The One Show have rightly promoted Christine's fund raising challenge - the more promotion the more money for the cause! Not a lot of point in doing a money raising challenge low key and not updating. I was happy to pay £5 because she has put herself forward for this challenge. And the updates on her progress have been great.Well done Christine - you did well and should be proud! Fri 12 Mar 2010 11:32:15 GMT+1 bwoods30 lets not get rid of Adrian on a Friday, but CB for good!!! Fri 12 Mar 2010 10:26:56 GMT+1 Bert Arter As ever Thursdays show was great. I dont understand why you want to mess it about by bringing in Chris Evans on Fridays. The current format is OK. Norfbert Fri 12 Mar 2010 09:53:38 GMT+1 Suburbangirl It seemed to me that David Essex was given far less coverage time on this show than many other well known guests who have been on. Presumably he took part to promote his musical, but he wasn't given much chance to do so. Bring back David!!!! Fri 12 Mar 2010 08:47:18 GMT+1 tyroneshoelaces Given the number of regulars and first timers posting tonight, I do hope the TOS crew accept that many people are complaining about C.Bleakley hogging the limelight. Go easy on us tomorrow please, we cannot take much more. Poor old cashley seems to have headed for the hills with an overdose of CB. Thu 11 Mar 2010 23:38:54 GMT+1 1davidfan I totally agree with Wendy. It's always wonderful to see David Essex however short the time, and boy was this short!! The show seemed to be mainly about Christine and her water skiing attempt (however charitable the cause)that David was almost an afterthought. Please rectify this and have him on again soon. Thu 11 Mar 2010 22:59:54 GMT+1 flunklumpard 60 Many of us have been asking for less of the CB fror weeks, but clearly the producers or TOS staff take no notice of viewers complaints. There are even complaints in the press now. CB seems unaware of it.God help us tomorrow night...thankfully it's not a hour long Friday show. Thu 11 Mar 2010 22:58:04 GMT+1 wendy David might not have been the star tonight as you say but then why have the legend on when the person that owns the show is so busy promoting herself? It's not like we have the pleasure of Mr Essex that holds a OBE on air very often regards wendy Thu 11 Mar 2010 22:53:20 GMT+1 UR0not11111010 I seem to agree with everyone. I was hoping the message had got across but I really don't think the Presenter in charge of affairs and the Presenter in charge of her fears, which I doubt very much exist to the point she is promoting them to be, did give David Essex the time most viewers would like. The only thing which did not mention CB is the email some of us cannot mention!!! (see 01-03-10 Blog) Remember David was not the Star tonight Christine was and I really do hope it will stop soon. Thu 11 Mar 2010 22:31:58 GMT+1 Sue Shame that David Essex wasn't on for longer - the show seemed to be focused on Christine - good for her and wish her all the best - but did we really need to keep going to Dover ?? Thu 11 Mar 2010 22:16:20 GMT+1 flunklumpard 57 IreneSurely your not surprised, it is after all the CBS. Thu 11 Mar 2010 21:59:19 GMT+1 Irene B Love the show just one complaint Not enough time spent talking with David Essex this evenings guest. I am sure more people tuned in just to see Mr Essex. I certainly paid more attention. So please can we have him on again. There was so much time spent down at Dover that we didn't even get to see David as much as we would have had Christine been in the studio. Thu 11 Mar 2010 21:39:38 GMT+1 watchingone 51/54 Thats interesting - I dont have a source to be able to verify this, but I remember back in the very early days of Comic Relief, reading that Charity Projects, who also run that, was started up as a way of avoiding the loss of money raised for charities on admin costs, by meeting them with corporate sponsorship. Christine's challenge is sponsored by Thomson so I thought that they would be offsetting the costs of staging it and I assumed that TKMaxx for eg would meet the costs of selling the tshirts - what they get out of it is the good publicity of being associated with it. But as I say, it must be 20 years ago that I read that and I accept things may have changed and I may be being naive in my assumptions/beliefs there. But as Flunk says, all charities have to meet admin costs to survive and as a charity Trustee myself (for a totally unconnected charity and one which is local to my area) I can confirm that things are tough out there and many local charities struggle to raise money or get money from Trusts to pay these costs, which nevertheless have to be paid to survive. We dont live in an ideal world sadly. Thu 11 Mar 2010 21:18:43 GMT+1 essex Lady I have been looking forward to seeing David Essex all week and was dissapointed that he got so little air time..I think the show is brilliant but felt you let a regular viewer down this evening. You could always ask him back and make a lot of people happy? Thu 11 Mar 2010 21:03:28 GMT+1 flunklumpard 51 danedwellerSadly all charities have overheads, but perhaps the guy is right in that with 60% going to admin, this one is not so good. Thu 11 Mar 2010 20:55:36 GMT+1 tyroneshoelaces 47 watchingone.I never knew about Helen's feat until she had completed it. Whatever she faced on six weeks of that should have been highlighted more.CB has been totally over exposed on TOS and the additional publicity in the press, is more the result of her boyfriend than any gravitas on her part.I would have felt a great deal more of CB and sympathised more with her struggle to do what she is doing, had this all been underplayed rather than being totally overplayed. The people who came to see her at Dover, were wanting to see a celeb and a TV crew - the charity was of secondary importance. Bad form! Thu 11 Mar 2010 20:50:05 GMT+1 bwoods30 Because they are reading their lines, thats why they leaning towards the camera. Thu 11 Mar 2010 20:46:50 GMT+1 Danedweller Very interesting posting over on the Support Christine Skiing blog. See no 236, if anyone is donating to Sports Relief. Thu 11 Mar 2010 20:43:16 GMT+1 Greg Fletcher Why does the camera always manage to catch Adrian, and sometimes Christine leaning forward, just as they aim to capture the guest - please avoid that angle - it is annoying!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thu 11 Mar 2010 20:39:31 GMT+1 matt holmes What was the book that Miranda had during the blue shark report? good report on them by the way! Thu 11 Mar 2010 20:35:19 GMT+1 Danedweller #47 watchingoneYeah, but unfortunately the target keep moving, but we will see how fast she can move over water Friday. lol Thu 11 Mar 2010 20:34:03 GMT+1 watchingone gosh, the knives are out tonight! But I do agree Helen Skelton would have got more publicity if she wasnt on a kids show, so I think she would be a good guest for the show, maybe next week? Thu 11 Mar 2010 20:24:21 GMT+1 wendy It was great to see the legendary David Essex on air, but felt as always he didn't get the air time to have his say like on most TV programs, but it was great to quickly hear what the man is up to and that fact that he is still going. Shame there was no mention of the Once in a Life time tour in the June/July. regards wendy Thu 11 Mar 2010 20:21:02 GMT+1 tyroneshoelaces 43 danedwellerShe does give the impression that all the attention to her is justified, the constant garbage in the DM (bit more right now)is painful. But wag status has brought her to the public eye and she is lapping it up.Funnily enough, when this water skiing thing was first mentioned last year, I thought it was a windup, sadly I have been proven wrong.14 JurgenPlease marry her, tie her to the kitchen sink and we can all have a break. Thu 11 Mar 2010 20:14:09 GMT+1 The David Essex No1 Club A bit disappointing for some of us....waiting all week to see David promote All the fun of the fair and we got probably about 20 seconds about the show and interview with David, Many of our Group (The David Essex No1 Club) tuned in to see and hear David and have said how disappointed they were with the time David was given to himselfMarie and WendThe David Essex No1 Club Thu 11 Mar 2010 20:02:58 GMT+1 Danedweller #38 tyroneshoelacesYes, and it makes them feel so worthy.(I wonder if she will make it breathlessly back to TOS Friday evening, in time for grand entrance to studio, courtesy of expensive hellicopter?) Thu 11 Mar 2010 19:59:18 GMT+1 Danedweller # 30 sxg123May be he hasn't been a guest on TOS because the prog is repeated Tuesday evenings on BBC 2 at 7.00 p.m, Thu 11 Mar 2010 19:54:03 GMT+1 tyroneshoelaces 36 danedwellerWholeheartedly agree with your sentiments.TOS, when CB has finished with her water skiing attempt at the Channel, will you invite Helen would make a good programme with the two of them exchanging notes! Thu 11 Mar 2010 19:53:02 GMT+1 bwoods30 CB reminds me of a mad witch, but do the BBC listen? Thu 11 Mar 2010 19:51:47 GMT+1 sxg123 #36 DanedwellerExcellent post. Well said. Thu 11 Mar 2010 19:49:48 GMT+1 tyroneshoelaces A quick jolly accross the channel, huge celebration on TOS tomorrow night, pics in paper all over weekend and a slap up nosh where the starter will cost more than kids in Africa earn in a year. That's charity for you. Thu 11 Mar 2010 19:49:45 GMT+1 Danedweller #31 flunkEr, a bit like TOS, (thinks for a nano second) yeah absolutely! Thu 11 Mar 2010 19:48:39 GMT+1 Danedweller Helen Skelton reached the end of her extraordinary 2,010-mile kayak down the Amazon River in aid of Sport Relief setting two Guinness World Records in the process! She has now officially completed the longest solo journey by kayak and the longest distance in a kayak in 24 hours by a woman. Skelton spent six challenging weeks on the Amazon River, battling on despite heat exhaustion, sea sickness, aching limbs, tarantula encounters, a sunken support boat and a splintered kayak, to reach her incredible 2,010-mile target. Now that is what I call a challenge Christine, and was this achievement mentioned on TOS, err no. Did she get as much publicity as you err no! Thu 11 Mar 2010 19:45:04 GMT+1 18again Good Luck for your challenge tomorrow can do it! Thu 11 Mar 2010 19:43:22 GMT+1 bwoods30 Thought Cox was a bit condescending Thu 11 Mar 2010 19:41:40 GMT+1 dutchblog 1 – In Dutch [Netherlands] shark = haai ~ sounds like “HI!” – watch out when you think you are getting a pleasant greeting on a beach!2 – What an excellent quick visual example of the scale ratio of the planets – well done TOS!3 – Good luck Christine, a wonderful sum – brave girl – success! 4- Adrian managed O’K on his own (for an Albion supporter) – good guest, too in David Essex Thu 11 Mar 2010 19:40:10 GMT+1 Jiffy I'm really confused by how David Essex and Peter Gabriel look soo alike now! Peter was on the show a couple of weeks ago and I thought he was on the show again tonight. How Bizarre. Thu 11 Mar 2010 19:36:22 GMT+1 flunklumpard #29 DanedwellerCox's programme is the best programme the BBC have made and it's not just me saying that. Really great stuff. A bit like TOS really. Thu 11 Mar 2010 19:35:55 GMT+1 sxg123 #29 DanedwellerHere, here. I thought Prof Cox's programme was absolutely fascinating. He makes a potentially complex and academic subject really interesting for ordinary mortals like me. Thu 11 Mar 2010 19:35:46 GMT+1 Danedweller Professor Brian Cox has a 5 part series on BBC 2 about the solar system. Last week it was so great I watched it twice. Prof Cox makes a complex subject interesting and easier to understand. It's a pity that TOS hasn't invited Brian Cox as a guest to promote a BBC program. They are never short of guests on promoting programs on ITV and channel 4! Thu 11 Mar 2010 19:32:02 GMT+1 flunklumpard 21 todderIt's about trying. Thu 11 Mar 2010 19:31:04 GMT+1 Shirley R HiWhat a brilliant piece on the planets. Any chance please of donating those wonderful models to the school I teach in! They would be a fantastic resource for us! Hopefully yours! Thu 11 Mar 2010 19:29:35 GMT+1 sxg123 I really, really hope CB completes this challenge tomorrow. I for one can't take any more of this self-serving publicity.I want the charity to benefit but not at the expense of my sanity. Thu 11 Mar 2010 19:28:05 GMT+1 bwoods30 She cant fail its pretty easy Thu 11 Mar 2010 19:26:14 GMT+1 jeraise45 Does Dave Essex know that a chain of petrol stations and a hotel is named after him in the south east of slovakia we discovered this on holiday in 2000 Thu 11 Mar 2010 19:26:06 GMT+1 bwoods30 This post has been Removed Thu 11 Mar 2010 19:25:23 GMT+1 sxg123 #10 flunklumpardYes, I thought Adrian was better but I felt sure I must be mistaken. Thu 11 Mar 2010 19:24:56 GMT+1 todder how much are the bbc wasting on cb to ski across channel it would have been better to use this money to put straight to the charity instead of bombarding the poor old public again, when she fails is she giving money back Thu 11 Mar 2010 19:23:32 GMT+1 bwoods30 The show is far better without CB Thu 11 Mar 2010 19:22:31 GMT+1 18again David Essex on the One Show...Thank You, Thank You, Thank You!!!!! I will dream sweet dreams tonight!!! X Thu 11 Mar 2010 19:21:27 GMT+1 flunklumpard 12 sxg123Probably is now. Have to say that AC is working well tonight, without Madam. David was in the charts often and I was always convinced he was singing to me to help me feel better! Love you David. Saw you at The Swan in High Wycombe. The show was AMAZING! All the best on the West End :) Thu 11 Mar 2010 19:16:09 GMT+1 Jurgen Christine! If you dont make it I'll marry you anyway. LOL, That should do the trick.YES? Thu 11 Mar 2010 19:15:26 GMT+1 Barbara Tite My son and I went to see 'All the Fun of the Fair' at The Derngate Theatre, Northampton; it was awful, we left at half - time along with quite a few others. The plot was implausible, the characters more charicatures and it was just terrible. We had to laugh, otherwise we would have cried. Glad to hear the director and actors havechanged, they needed to. Also, Adrian, the reviews were very bad--we took a look after we had been to see it and wished we had looked before. Thu 11 Mar 2010 19:15:18 GMT+1 sxg123 Is this The One Show or the Christine Bleakley Show? Thu 11 Mar 2010 19:15:14 GMT+1 Carol Harvey AM sitting here still Salivating over DE. Am 47 and he was my absolute idol in the 70's. He is still A very handsome man! Really made my night seeing him. Tell him if he ever in Glasgow, My pal and I would take him to dinner in a Flash!!!!!! Thu 11 Mar 2010 19:11:15 GMT+1 flunklumpard TOS, spare us the numpties, desperate to get on telly, who are with CB at present. Thu 11 Mar 2010 19:08:02 GMT+1 flunklumpard #7 sxg123...and also lost if celebrated and recorded for posterity in some overly expensive joint in London. It's for charity y'know. Thu 11 Mar 2010 18:57:28 GMT+1 bwoods30 Celebs want recognition for charity, if your one its a must, just hope all the money she raises goes to the charity. Look at live Aid a lot of that is allegedly went on arms. Thu 11 Mar 2010 18:57:06 GMT+1 sxg123 #6 flunklumpardAmen to that. It would be all too easy for the good cause to be lost in the plethora of publicity. Thu 11 Mar 2010 18:53:59 GMT+1 flunklumpard 4 sxg123Please God it is tomorrow. Wish her well and would remind her of her poverty stricken friend Hijara. Whatever you achieve will be a great result, so CB, remembering why you are doing this, please celebrate unpretentiously. Thu 11 Mar 2010 18:51:16 GMT+1 Danedweller #3 bwoods30Have you looked in the mirror. lol Thu 11 Mar 2010 18:49:51 GMT+1 sxg123 I need to be on my best behaviour tonight. No "off-topic" posts.Good to see that Miranda is back but as flunklumpard says it is an interesting juxtaposition with CB's endeavour (tomorrow?). Thu 11 Mar 2010 18:43:15 GMT+1 bwoods30 Who has the biggest mouth CB or jaws? Thu 11 Mar 2010 18:42:39 GMT+1 flunklumpard Fascinating that TOS is going to show a piece on 'Shark hunting in British Waters' tonight, just as CB is about to ski the Channel. Thu 11 Mar 2010 18:38:32 GMT+1 Danedweller David Essex! Now there was a man I would have left home for, back in the 70's. All that wonderful long dark hair, not so much of it now in evidence!Still a big fan David, so you can hold me as tight as you like. Thu 11 Mar 2010 18:21:15 GMT+1
