We only had the final confirmation yesterday. It would cost us around £180,000 per year to put the six necessary channels in the Freesat EPG (we actually have seven, however one is permanently assigned to the Sport Multiscreen homepage)There would also be the additional cost of supplying data into the EPG - we don't currently have this available for Freesat in an easily available format. We would need it and providing it would cost money.Thirdly whilst a lot of the content is just a single piece of video, other parts of our content are specifically designed to be viewed within an interactive application. For example, video based quizzes which will only work if you're in an application. There are also other services like the ability to change commentary during events (mostly used for Sport, but also used for things like Doctor Who.)Fourthly is a matter of rights - we sometimes have rights restrictions that mean we can only show certain content within the context of a red button service, and not on a proper channel. Or, alternatively, we might have the rights to show something on red button a certain number of times and on a normal channel a different number of times. Such things are common especially in music. To put it on an EPG listing on Freesat would increase the complexity of these situations. On Freeview we only have channels 301 and 302 because it was a technical necessity. Without a channel number, many of the early boxes Freeview simply wouldn't load the video.Like I say it's a lot of little reasons - however they all add up I'm afraid.
