I really can't see how this comedy can be said to be 'bereft' of comedy. They've beautifully taken apart social trends and stereotypes, this is where the humour lies. Brilliant observational and character comedy that seems to get even better as the series progresses. The detail is incredible and the humour veers from subtle (you probably missed it...) to provocative. I can't recommend this programme enough, but you need to connect! The writers have blended some predictable belly laughable characters with one or two who require our sympathy (funny how traditional british values bring this out - episode 4)!! I watched it by chance on BBC iplayer. Some of the characters are alright, others are brilliant. Former 'Fast Show' guys, Whitehouse, Higson and Day, are very welcome back on the TV screens. The characters Higson and Day play are the stand out performances in the show. Great show. Perhaps the comments who dont find it funny, dont get it/ dont appreciate the level of detail. This is some of the best comedy acting I have seen in years. Sorry, but this really didn't work for me and was nowhere near the brilliance of the Fast Show. The characters seemed mundane and not even slightly funny! Sat 23 Jan 2010 22:21:24 GMT+1 The Bimbler http://wwwsearch.bbc.co.uk/blogs/comedy/2010/01/welcome-to-bellamys-babes.shtml?page=0#comment0 I watched the first episode of Bellamy's People last night and thought it was one of the worst comedies I had seen in a long time. It consisted of Charlie Higson and Paul Whitehouse dressed up as various odd characters. However the dialogue which accompanied this was bereft of any comedic quality. Laugh out Loud I did not! Paul Whitehouse's recent 90 second TV adds were funnier than this. I appreciate that this was transferred from a Radio Four programme. Sometimes this works, this time it didn't. Higson and Whitehouse will have to do much better than this to approach the standard of their work on the Fast Show of many years ago. Fri 22 Jan 2010 20:27:03 GMT+1
