The year is 2029 and the people in their twenties are asking the older ones (those left)
'What did you do in the 2009 Great Slump?'
'Well' says one 'I helped get house prices back up where they belong.
They all went back up, skyward, so it made no difference to anyone with a home of their own
But it kept the poor and first time buyers off the private estates and that can't be bad.'
'Well' says another 'I helped get the stock market booming again.
I helped start the bull run that trebled prices in three years.
That was good inflation of course. It meant we got people with above average pensions much much more, and people on the state pension we left behind.
All the inequality we recreated gave us a warm 'richer than thou' feelinng'
'Well' says another 'I did nothing but made silly jokes.
I said it was to cheer others up.
It kept my BBC remuneration sky high anyway'
'Anyway' they all said together, none of them in Unison 'We eliminated all that talk of fairness and fresh starts by putting capitalism back together'
The many turned away and said
'We missed a chance. But never mind. We can always, at any time, replace this iniquitous system. Just by telling our leaders and the news outlets that we want it gone' --------------------------------------------
