I was listening to Radio 3 recently while I was preparing the dinner and my 5 year old son walked into the room and said 'that music on the radio is Dance Macabre'. I asked him how he knew the name of the music and he said he'd heard it first on a Mickey Mouse film. It doesn't matter how a child is exposed to music, what matters is that they are exposed to it. As a kid, here in the USA, Cincinnati, Ohio, to be exact, our primary elementary schools participated in the first Youth Symphony Programs.Prior to attending our first concert we were not only schooled on correct audience etiquette, but listened to several pieces of music that were almost everyday happenings. For example, The William Tell Overture, thanks to the Lone Range programs. Made the light bulbs go on in many of our little heads.Leonard Bernstein used this, too, in his televised Youth Symphony concerts. Enjoyed your chat about movie music and the entire concert. Thought Jamie made a great "Cowardly Lion." Mon 22 Dec 2008 16:18:35 GMT+1
