Him and all the other Pool obsessed pundits make it so fun to watch Liverpool suffer. It's kind of like following the England national team, the media and fans get all delusional and then despondent when the team fails. It's pretty amusing for an outsider like me... Sat 24 Oct 2009 10:36:32 GMT+1 Wengers Optician Haha that big guy behind the kid who threw the ball looks like he wants to eat it Sat 24 Oct 2009 10:19:52 GMT+1 Chris Wilby I'm baaack! Jeez, English pubs over here are dull! And for some reason they're filled with northerners! I hardly dared open my mouth! :-)ADO is indeed a club nobody over here likes. At least, that's what they tell me. I only follow the Dutch league through the highlights on the telly, so I might very well be mistaken - but I'm pretty sure they're a rough bunch! First of Nov is Feyenoord Ajax. They call it "de klassieker" over here, meaning the classic game! They're rivalry is unrivaled over here! Should be a good game, too! Fri 23 Oct 2009 20:50:12 GMT+1 TommyB The M56 runs from Manchester to North Wales so you'd have to get off the motorway quite soon and head via Speke. I reckon this would be quite busy though with all those millions of Norwegians arriving at the airport so it might be better to go upto the M62. Unless of course you're going up the Wirral on the M53 and straight through the Wallasey tunnel, then you're almost there. Bit of a long way round, but Christ there are a lot of Norwegians. Come over 'ere, stealin' our footy teams! Where do they all sleep? Stanley Park? Maybe the Scotty Road crew bring them lentils. We should send in Purple Aki, that'd clear em out. Fri 23 Oct 2009 20:44:55 GMT+1 PaulyBoy #77 - the last leg of the journey would be the M56...(you would however have to travel the M6 from the bottom to get to the M56 however)And go on ADO - I take it no-one likes you guys either... Fri 23 Oct 2009 20:35:48 GMT+1 Wash ,i wouldnt count on the man u fans coming up the M6 as most of them are from the south of england---------------------------------- And which motorway heads to Liverpool on the last leg of the journey from Surrey?I think he was being a little more clever than you give him credit for... Fri 23 Oct 2009 20:08:29 GMT+1 Coweslepe You see? You're catching on and have more posts already than a month's worth in the past. These columns really have become a drowsy Friday's delight. Well done, Chris. Great stuff with a clear, consistent flow. Also, thanks for the Robbo reminder. Even I seem to have forgotten just how refreshing these interviews were. This bygone medium really showed the quickness of his wit, whereas, occasionally perhaps, the blog tends to dilute the brilliance that was always so apparent. And finally, sorry for the confusion about the #****! in pink on the passing float. Fri 23 Oct 2009 18:36:37 GMT+1 TommyB Oooohhh, Norwegian, my favourite! Funnily enough I got most of that too. Scoreline would be nice, but I suspect we'll concede.Good blog again, Chris. My boss is a QPR fan from Athlone (Ireland for those who don't know). Is this symptomatic of the new breed of glory hunters we can expect to see hanging around Loftus Road since you were taken over by "fit and proper persons"? Fri 23 Oct 2009 18:25:29 GMT+1 malcolm newbigging Hi Chris, yes Fordingbridge is indeed in the New Forest, and it is a lovely part of the country. The train to London is very good and a lot easier than the drive to O/T. Saturday games are ok but getting home on a Sunday is a nightmare. Where does everyone on the M6 South come from? Fri 23 Oct 2009 18:12:06 GMT+1 Robokopthe3rd they like their english footy...i meant Fri 23 Oct 2009 18:06:08 GMT+1 Robokopthe3rd 70.Correct! Norwegian and dutch are not too dissimilar, but Norwegian is easier to learn than dutch, for an english bloke like me. And yes, there are lots of Liverpool fans here in Norway. And some Man u fans too...but some of them have never heard of Kanchelskis, or Albiston, or Greenhoff. Many Spurs fans are the same here...never heard of Ardiles or Ricky Villa. I was shocked!!! Not to know the history of ones club is crazy! There was a big deal about Riise v Riise in the Europa League yesterday (Fulham v Roma). They like there english footy here. And Liverpool shall win 2-0 Fri 23 Oct 2009 18:05:25 GMT+1 Holloway2Holland I think he's yet to fill his potential, he looked pretty decent against Blackburn & B'ham, for the short time he was on, but I too worry he's still too fragile.Enjoy your drinks. Proost Fri 23 Oct 2009 17:58:02 GMT+1 Chris Wilby Forstår du?That must me 'do you understand?' right? Sounds like "versta je?" in Dutch! Fri 23 Oct 2009 17:52:58 GMT+1 Chris Wilby I have been told many a time that ADO is the Millwall of Holland! Love the city though, been there a few times! Strange to see the wally with the brolly do so well at the mo. Hope they win the league, although I doubt my Feijenoord buddies will appreciate me saying that, so sshhhhh! I'm still waiting for my mates so I can have a few drinks! Oh well, posting comments on this blog is as good a way as any to kill some time I suppose. What's your verdict on Walcott by the way, h2h? Decent player imo although he lacks a killer cross/pass and seems so unbelievable injury prone... I hope that doesn't kill his career Fri 23 Oct 2009 17:52:03 GMT+1 Holloway2Holland #67 I don't think that will happen, And that's english, do you understand? Thats Norwegian! Forstår du? Fri 23 Oct 2009 17:44:38 GMT+1 Holloway2Holland #jollygunnerinholland, Nowadays I live close to the new ADO stadium, but they don't stand a chance, a lot of mates have got club cards so I go occasionally although I'm not that fanatical about it. Stevie Mac's Twente are doing ok, so I'd say it's between them Feijenoord, Ajax or PSV. Fri 23 Oct 2009 17:44:15 GMT+1 supa1878 2. Fri 23 Oct 2009 17:23:50 GMT+1 Chris Wilby H2H, nice to see another english expat in holland! So, which team do you fancy to win the Dutch league? I'm near rotterdam, so I'm gonna have to say Feijenoor ;-)Anyway, I digress! I'm actually over here legally, GSS! A legal alien in Rotterdam woahooah!Just in case anybody's interested, my predo for pool v man u: 0-1. An early goal and pool peppering the united goal with long range efforts.I wish I could make the trip to Upton Park Sunday (it used to be quite a short trip)Cheers all, I'm off for a few bevvies Fri 23 Oct 2009 17:17:34 GMT+1 Holloway2Holland Nice one. I'm sure that if you can be up in or around the promo/play off places the attendances will rise, and a price freeze would be a good idea. Anyway good look for the rest of the season, as an expat Londoner I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for your mob. Fri 23 Oct 2009 16:52:45 GMT+1 Chris Charles 61. Holloway2Holland. Good question. First of all, it's a big IF - being a QPR fan for as long as I have means that you automatically expect any upturn in fortune to come to an abrupt and sticky end. But let's just say it does come to fruition, I would definitely expect them to dip into those vast reserves, but equally I'm sure tickets would go up. The problem they've had these past couple of seasons is that many people aren't willing to pay Premier League prices for Championship football (you can get a season ticket at Fulham for much less). Consequently gates are hovering around the 12,000 mark when, with the fan base we have, the team should really be playing in front of a full house. I think the fairest thing to do would be to freeze prices if and when we get to the PL and then see how many turn up. Whether that will be the case of course.... Fri 23 Oct 2009 16:39:46 GMT+1 Holloway2Holland Chris, I have a serious question for ya. (For a change.) If the Hoops could actually keep their good form & win promotion do you think that the board would be willing to splash the cash to make a real go of trying to stay there, or do you think they'd just raise the admission/season ticket prices and milk it till you fell back down. Cheers H2H Fri 23 Oct 2009 16:18:53 GMT+1 God_Tony_Yeboah_21 Its great that Liverpool are suddenly becoming a cautionary tale isn't it? Along the lines of 'we are rubbish, but at least we are not Liverpool'Its funny, all of their supporters seem pretty quiet about this being their year now, thats all I read on 606 pre season. I called it at the time - out of the race by xmas and out of the top 4 by end of the season. Stevie G will stick around if that happens, not sure about Torres and Reina though the lure of Spains top clubs calling might be too much.Couldnt happen to a nicer club or bunch of fans ;-) Fri 23 Oct 2009 16:16:18 GMT+1 Chris Charles 49. smM2009: Blimey, there's some absolute corkers in there. Brian Deane? He did score the first-ever goal in the Premiership, so I suppose he's worth a place. Euro 96 anti-hero Gareth Southgate? Well I guess he needs something to occupy his time. And Michael Chopra?! Joking aside, I think the idea is to have representatives from across the world, hence the inclusion of Mikel and former QPR (ahem) legend Zesh Rehman. Fri 23 Oct 2009 16:15:20 GMT+1 SimplyZola I look forward to this every week, brilliant! Have to say our (Chelsea) defending was rubbish against Aston Villa... but it could be worse, we could be Liverpool! Fri 23 Oct 2009 16:11:27 GMT+1 RedBlueArmy92 ooooooooooooh... You'll probably win, but i hope that ooh addedsome drama for you? Goodbye every body! Fri 23 Oct 2009 16:01:23 GMT+1 Holloway2Holland The Hammers away on Sunday. Fri 23 Oct 2009 15:59:07 GMT+1 Chris Charles 28. GrandSpiderSlug: An interesting point you raise there. If Man Utd get a beach ball-themed equaliser and Fergie puts his hand over his nose when he celebrates then we'll know the truth for sure. 32. FordingbridgeFlyer: Fordingbridge - is that in the New Forest? Lovely part of the world. Having been down there recently, I can tell you it doesn't take long to get to the smoke. So if you're ever bored, jump on the train and get yourself up to Loftus Road. Don't worry about getting tickets beforehand - there's always plenty of room.38. RedBlueArmy92: Afternoon old son! Agreed, don't think there's any danger of Liverpool going down somehow - or even finishing in the bottom half. They've had a bad run and losing Torres and Gerrard at the same time was a killer blow. Reds fans have to hope Aquilani hits the ground running and that there's cash available in January to shore up the squad. 42. jollygunnerinholland: I've gone on record before as saying sometimes I wish QPR had never been taken over by these billionaires - with expectation levels raised to the roof, ticket prices soaring and the team looking more like Queens Park Strangers. However, us football fans are notoriously fickle - and it's amazing what a few wins and some fantastic passing football can do to (temporarily at least) eradicate all the disenchantment. Would I take promotion? You betcha boots I would! Fri 23 Oct 2009 15:59:01 GMT+1 RedBlueArmy92 Cheers H2H...i'm not holding my breath... though i am crossing everything that will cross... Fri 23 Oct 2009 15:41:13 GMT+1 GrandSpiderSlug I thought that the main reason Liverpool have been a little off colour this season was the fact that they are not very good....Discuss, oh and that the team mascott has changed his name to Chris Jollygunnerinholland. I think we both know that the Europa league play off spot is a bit too much for them this season. Fri 23 Oct 2009 15:27:52 GMT+1 RedBlueArmy92 Of course they'll stay up, and with the right attitude a Carling cup Qtr final or Europa league play off spot isn't out of the question... Fri 23 Oct 2009 15:21:35 GMT+1 GrandSpiderSlug Liverpool is still one of the best teams in the north west. I think any Liverpool fan should be confident that Rafa's team will stay up! Are they one and the same thing me wonders?? Fri 23 Oct 2009 14:35:06 GMT+1 kadodamball If there was a good time for Rafa to pick up the results then this is it. If he wins, I am sure you will agree with me, all will be forgotten. Just how good are football fans at forgetting, only Rafa knows. Remember all the calls for his head have been made before. This again will pass. C'mon reds, a win against Man Utd and silence will prevail once more! Fri 23 Oct 2009 14:17:55 GMT+1 Rovers Return - HKR AWAY DAYS #9 - "Owen scoring at Anfield for Man U. My cousin's husband has a season ticket and regularly makes the journey from London to Manchester and back. Only difference being he used to come to QPR until the United season-ticket landed in his lap. Granted we were particularly rubbish at the time, but he still cops a bit of stick for it. 18. paultheinfamous: Ha ha - not another one! Back in the good old days, I used to interview Robbo every week (and I might be a bit mad, but I can assure you I wasn't talking to myself). If you type Robbo Robson into the BBC Sport search and go to the news clips on the right-hand side, you can listen for yourself. Alternatively I'll put in a link at the bottom of this reply which may or may not work - I've got no way of deleting it once I've hit 'post comment'. I put all Robbo's stuff on the site and have got to become good mates with him over the years, but I'm afraid I'm not fit to lace the great man's boots. Anyway, here's that link (or not). Fri 23 Oct 2009 14:14:42 GMT+1 PaulyBoy Actually most Man United fans will be going up the M6, after taking the M1 from London... Fri 23 Oct 2009 14:09:49 GMT+1 Holloway2Holland 18. So 8 goals in the space of a few days and a game in hand that'll put you in the top 4, you must be pinching yourself to make sure you're not dreaming! On a more serious note, you're really going to have to start schooling your young'uns (yeah I like The Wire) in the ways of the Hoops, it's bad enough that you were given a card with a chav on it, he was also one of the Jerry (and old films too) variety, now if that's not adding insult to injury, I don't know what I'm with Gaz, SAVE RAFA. Fri 23 Oct 2009 13:50:38 GMT+1 Paul Liverpool are the sort of side that could easily put in a great performance and get a win, especially in front of the kop.I hate it when we are playing teams that are wounded, I would prefer Liverpool had won the last four but as it is United will be facing a team with a lot to prove. In my opinion United will only win if they play better than they have done all season and the signs are good that we are improving.I will be happy to come away from Anfield with a point.Having said that, a one nil win complete with a last minute goeal from Michael Owen in, say, the 98th minute would be awesome! Fri 23 Oct 2009 13:47:21 GMT+1 malcolm newbigging Chris, just to put it right, ManU fans will mostly go to Liverpool along the M56 or M62 or the A580 East Lancs Road. You, and any other interested parties may infer from my name that I am from the South. Well I live in the South now but am originally from the North so my apologies to all for continuing to support my team even though I have moved. I have a near 500 mile round trip to O/T, surely that is to be applauded not criticised. Finally, I predict that the beach ball will score the winner for United in injury time.
