Also..Two years ago Tom Wright held a press conference and said that it was time to ask what it means to be in communion with Canterbury. He's the Bishop of Durham! If he doesn't know, who has the answer?Graham Veale Tue 01 Jul 2008 11:13:31 GMT+1 Heliopolitan http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/ni/2008/06/gafcon_the_jerusalem_declarati.html?page=14#comment5 Hi Peter,What about Zimbabwe?I think you'd be hard pressed to find anyone who would argue that simply chucking out all the religious crap would bring about utopia in one fell swoop. But it's a start ;-) Mon 30 Jun 2008 21:21:17 GMT+1 petermorrow http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/ni/2008/06/gafcon_the_jerusalem_declarati.html?page=11#comment4 Yes - rational, liberal, democratic politics.Remind me again, which was one was the country without political sleaze, knife crime, community tension, harassment, attacks on the old, the young, the vulnerable? Which one was it where justice prevailed, where the innocent were protected and the weak strengthen. Where are the politicians we trust, the financial organisations which share their wealth and protect the environment. In which one are the strangers welcomed and the hungry fed?Oh yes that's right there aren't any yet because religion is not yet dead.Silly me. Many of the Lord's teachings tell us to LOVE ONE ANOTHER. I defy this body of Christians to swear upon their future in Heaven or Hell that they have no homosexuals amoung them. Being homosexual is not a choice. I am heterosexual because God ordained it. Just as he gave me red hair and blue eyes. Being heterosexual is not a sin and neither is any other ordaination by our Lord. People of different sexual proclivity are the part of our Lord's great plan. Should the larger community take this course in order to not offend other religious faiths or sects, perhaps we should all just roll over to Satanism. Heaven forfend that such rational, liberal, democratic politics should achieve hegemony in the 21st century! It might mean the end of bigotry, intolerance, sectarianism, ignorance, primitive taboos posing as morality, dogmatism, sexism and homophobia. If ever secularism were needed, it's now - when the forces of militant mumbo jumbo have nukes... How far will their ideological dispute over religious dogma take them? Would a complete break bankrupt them? Will they do it? They seem to be moving in that direction but so far the fatal step of schism or chasm hasn't quite opened up yet. What will the Americans have to do, how far will they have to go to cross the rubicon? Sun 29 Jun 2008 15:10:40 GMT+1
