Sun 05 Apr 2009 20:53:30 GMT+1 stanilic I am not too concerned about `fears' in the City as I have been working for more than thirty years in the real economy where articles are made and traded both here and abroard.I have been frustrated for years that the economic model in this country as espoused by the British state has been bent to favour financial services in general and the City in particular at the expense of everyone else. We forget that between 1997 and 2007 some one million manufacturing jobs were lost in the UK largely because an over-valued pound suited the interests of the financial services industry and the government. In the last nine months we have probably lost another million similar jobs.I have no objection to the City being deemed the goose that laid the golden egg, I just wish all those other geese that laid silver, bronze and brass eggs were deemed just as significant in the pecking order. We have to get into a situation where all the needs of the economy are given their proper consideration without secular privileges. Sat 04 Apr 2009 17:09:20 GMT+1 nottoonear As the golden goose was only laying very cheap and broken imitations - what's the problem? Sat 04 Apr 2009 12:21:44 GMT+1 jr4412 re. Map of the Week: money distorts, nay, disfigures, the world. Sat 04 Apr 2009 01:21:14 GMT+1 Barbazenzero Mark,It's now more than a working week since the BBC published the toplines of the poll on which your Modernising tradition is based, but neither the BBC nor ICM have published the details of the poll. Can we expect these soon, please? The G20 is just a sideshow diverting us away from the broken polity of the UK, both in economic and constitutional terms.Post or reactive moderation for all except CBeebies, please!
