Athletes don't often have anything interesting to say, and never under these conditions. The interviews from the Crystal Palace meeting have been exceptionally bad. The only interest is waiting to see who the first athlete to lose their temper and punch the interviewer will be. The pundits' comments are bad enough but just about bearable and occasionally interesting but these interviews are desperate. I remember in Edmonton how he limped straight after crossing the finish line after winning in 9.82s or how he got a bronze in Athens after everyone writing him off.So far, at least Powell's shyness has not shown itself to be effective as regards winning in the big competitions.
