Brilliant signing, as a Liverpool fan I wanted him here if I'm honest. Good purchase but I don't think he will win anything for a long time at spurs, good job hes only 22.

I feel that this could be a nail in Lennon's coffin, with our new midfield next season possibly looking like:

Jenas Modric New DM New LM

Although i hope we find a way to accommodate Lennon, Jenas and Modric in the same midfield.

As a united fan, absolute quality signing all you need is a defensive midfielder a left back and a keeper and you'll be a force, good team to watch spurs.

I expect three more midfield signings and an extension on Berbatov's contract, maybe for just one year, but enough to install lots of faith in our chances of getting back into the top 5.
I think THudd, Jenas, maybe Steed and O'Hara will stay. I expect Zok, Lennon, Tainio and our other surplus midfielders will all go. I expect we'll go for Diego Capel and Christian Poulson and maybe this Guitteriz chappy, who is the new La Liga wonderkid (IIRC) up front - if we can get 10m+ for Bent.
Good way to wake up. Now we need to stuff Bolton today and show Luka that he's joined a team that he can be proud of!

i understand spurs fans euphoria over signing modric but for 15.8 million, that is a gamble and a half. The croatian league is not good, forgive me for being a pessimist on this occasion but a reasonable player could shine there. Then again it could be worse, charlton should have worn a mask when they sold spurs darren bent for 17 million. In any case i like THFC so i hope he works out for you.

i think its a very good signing, modric could get in2 most teams in the league. i think we may sign another midfielder to go straight in the side with him, but id be very suprised if they came from sevilla.

1 other thing that cheers me up, is the fans saying that we wouldnt be able to attract half decent players cos we are a small/mid table side - but who wouldnt want a player like modric in the side??

I'm with irishred. I'm thinking this is a huge gamble. One that if it comes off, will no doubt be our biggest coup bar berbatov.

Also I really dont see the arrival of Modric seeing a place in the first team for Jermaine Jenas, any1 else think hes more likely to go for zokora/huddlestone for their defensive capabilities?

If Spurs make some more quality signings, their is no reason why the can't challenge for a Champions league spot next season.

Why are there rumours about Lennon leaving? The boy is a key player for Spurs and is only 20/21. His pace and acceleration is something else, and his crossing, more often then not, is accurate.

Spurs team next season:

GK: Someone new
RB: Hutton
CB: Woogate
CB: King
LB: Bale

RM: Lennon
CM: Jenas
CM: Someone new
LM: Modric(quality signing by the way)

ST: Berbatov
ST: Keane/Bent

Agree with all the above. Great way to start the morning. Excellent signing, we could do with a ball winner to play alongside him next season now, a fast left winger, a centre half and a keeper. This is a huge statement of intent from the manager and the board. Credit must go to them for this excellent coup. Ps hope we keep Lennon, feel he can still get better, particularly with a good winger on his opposite flank to compliment him. Would much rather see the inneffective Malbranque leave. But Modric will give give us some much needed creativity from midfield, can you imagine how many more we'd score when the strikers don't have to create all the chances for themselves?

Of course it is a gamble EVERY signing is a gamble! But thats football.

I am not sure where we will play Modric, he could in theory cover any of the attacking midfield roles. I would suggest possible Steed making way as Modric can play the role of an attacking midfielder tucked in from a wide position very well. Good signing I say.

To the guy stating Modric has only come from the Croatian league. That may be true, but he has also shown it on the international stage, he was the best player on the pitch when they beat England at wembley. He showed he was better on the ball then Englands midfield that day. He has something english footballers do not, which is good feet and a great touch. Good signing for spurs.

as an arsenal fan i can remember two seasons ago when we played dinamo zagreb in the champo league qualifiers... altho Eduardo played well the persn hu was the biggest threat to us from that team was modric, he was their best player by a long way...
he's an attacking midfielder hu cn also play wide and up front... he doesn't play wide in the conventional burst down the win sense... but he could solve ur leftsided problems... or you could reshuffle into a 4-3-1-2
GK: Robinson
RB: Chimbonda
CB: Woodgate
CB: King
LB: Bale
CM: Jenas
CM: Zokora
CM: Malbranque
AM: Modric
FW: Keane
FW: Berbatov

"To the guy stating Modric has only come from the Croatian league"..........hands up, that was me. I wasnt trying to be negative, indeed i think its more of a statment of intent by ramos that im most impressed by on this occasion than the particular signing of modric, he obviously has no time for mediocrity and thats more than healthy for spurs fans to digest today. On the comment about him playing well against england....fair enough but i seem to recall that peter crouch was englands man of the match that day and that speaks volumes really about englands team performance that day...........all in all, i think spurs fans can be quietly content that their club is in the hands of a good man in ramos......even if im not to hot on this new signing yet im happy to eat my hat and i hope he proves me wrong...ok

hi, dinamo zagreb fan here, well I know Luka from first hand, I mean hes a biggest star here. so tottenham fans can be glad Modrić sign for them

yep hes from croatian league and its a gamble but trust me, hes a great player and you cant go wrong with him. he played many important games for croatia so he knows how to play at the highest level. remember Eduardo was from croatian league too and you saw how well he adapted until martin talyor showed hit a stop sign..

as I said be glad about Luka in your team
too bad some of you sang those dirty songs about Eduardo and now you got his best friend but thats a different story altogether.

I thik this could be a good for us but I can't wait to see who else he brings in.

I can't beleive the support Woodgate and King are getting. OK 2 quality players but come on their not going to last a full season. Boro took the Woody gamble and it didn't pay off! Is he magicaly fixed? King has been out for so long will he be able to play a full season?
WE NEED ANOTHER GARY MABUTT

Next Lennon ok he's quick just Like Shaun Wright-Phillips but they can't cross the ball or shoot. We need a winger, Hopefuly Ramos can pinch Bentley or find some Spanish Cristiano Ronaldo.

I stil think Bent needs to be given a chance unfortunately for him that means Keane will have to get injured.

But hey Ramos knows his stuff he'll find the right players and at the right price thats why he's a world class manager

It was great waking up this morning and seeing that Spurs are being proactive and attempting to address their midfield issues. The Croatian players in general are very hard working, with some of them possessing real quality. They collectively did a fabulous job in getting to the Euros, and the way their team worked and played for each other during the qualification stage was reminiscent of Ramos's Seville team.

I do hope it's not another Kaboul \ Bent signing though i.e. lots of money for players that haven't offered much to the side this season.

Somehow I don't think it will be though.

Every signing is gamble. Thierry Henry who is an amazing player is a having a hard time at Barcelona, and Schevchenko hasn't hit the dizy heights of his Milan days. Good luck Spurs and Luka.

I do hope it persuades Berba to stay but his agent isn't exactly helping matters. If he does go, then we will get a lot of money and I hve faith in Ramos buying another good striker using his Spanish connections. Maybe Milito or David Villa There should be a bit of cash left over to buy a quality centre back as well.

Great signing - I've heard promising things about this youngster.

He's an attacking midfielder who plays out wide or in the centre, and can play the holding role.

P.S. He's great on Football Manager! winkeye

If this soo called super Croatian does hit it off at the lane, I belive it will be Steed who will miss out and not Lennon nor Zokora.

Firstly, we will defiently need a DM in the starting XI due to the amount of goals we conceded this season so unless Ramos brings a new one in, Zokora will keep his place.

Secondly, I know people are saying LEnnon is rubbish becasue he cant cross but i think he will develope that skill for next season and he also lifts the croud when he has the ball and running at the Defenders into the heart of the box!

I will certainly have Modric on the back of my shirt for next season so he better deliver the goods. I will not be happy if it takes him 2 season to get going due to the 15 million price tag.

HE MIGHT BE THE BERBATOV IN OUR MIDEFIELD!

Apparently Eduardo suffers from brittle bones, thats why at 25 he was still playing in an unknwon team and went for half as much as modric.

Modric is being mentioned in top5 or ten young players, and has been for past year, someone with real class and vision in the middle of the pitch im so pleased we got him, and if the papers are to be believed thne McGeady is heading this way too, who is left footed winger just what the doc ordered....fair play Juande at last signing players we actually need and not just for the sake of it

HAHAHAHAHA!!!!! laugh

I would have expected us (Chelsea) to spend such a ridiculous amount on a player unproven in the PL. But Spurs really do like to take the biscuit with their big money signings of absolute nobodies. Modric can't be that good if he decided to settle for you.

How much was Darren Bent again? laugh

While we're on the subject how about buying Ben-Haim off us for the 8million you had wanted him for? laugh

Snoop (great name btw) - not sure your argument stacks up: bent was proven in the Premiership and this debate has raged for ages: he needs a run in the side to prove his worth, in short I think he is a casaulty of a slightly faulty management structure at the lane in early season. Anyway - back to modric is what we needed (on paper) and, following your argument, the alternative is to buy proven Premiership players then we would need to pay inflated prices. Which brings us full circle and back to Bent. Or Chelsea.

Good signing. Without doubt.
