You have hit me with news I was not aware of Bingting (I'm watching Liverpool/Bolton live).
I'll go away and get back, however, its great that Katie's made the main draw!
I want to check on Anne Keothavong and Melanie South's progress, both are in qualy's.
I'll get back!cheers

Think South lost in the second round because she isn't on today's OOP. Not sure about Keothavong.

Katie's draw is relatively friendly, looks like a match she should have a reasonable chance in. Not getting too excited though.

In theory in should be Serena Vs Venus in the semis but Venus has been playling poorly recently as in losing to a qualifier and some relatively unknown czech. Serena has played since Australia so could be very rusty.

I'm waiting to see if Melanie South and Anne Keothavong qualify, they both play their final qualy. tomorrow.
As you have suggested, Katie looks as good a DH as any.
If she can make the quarters, she would also break into the WTA 100 for the first time and that would be a 21st century, UK tennis milestone which should not go unrecognised!
The first Brit to make the 100 this century, I know I'm counting chickens etc., but it is a great opportunity.
Katie meets Olga Savchuk first round, then possibly, one of your protege's, Maria Yuryevna Kirilenko.
Bing,laters.
Mothers Day!
Hectic!cheers

conosu2,

I see that you named OīBrien as your DH. I am kind of torn between Kirilenko and Bammer -- If I pick Makiri, one of us will surely lose his DH after the 2nd round! So I need your advice on that.

Bammer is in Serenaīs quarter, and I think if she is fit she can well challenge Serena -- I donīt think there will be a Sisterīs Semis.

Therefore if I pick Bammer, there will not be a conflict of interests between us -- at least not before the final! But, as you well understand, it is difficult for me to let go the marvelous Maria Yuryevna -- if I do, it would be only out of my Magcom to you, since you would like to see the young star of your country make a landmark achievement. Regards.

Omg Bingting, you really do take magcom seriously!
Such mc!
"..you would like to see the young star of your country make a landmark achievement..".
How very true!bubblycheers
You may not believe it, but I would love to see Katie prosper against ANY wta player doh(well...perhaps not ANY!)....almost ANY wta player!

Bingting be careful with your mc and be completely aware, as I know you always are, of who you are dealing with vis-a-vis mc.

You have correctly identified my failings in that and other areas in the past, I'm working on them, but I still have a long way to go!
If, for example, Maria were to lose first round against Zi Yan, whom Maria leads 2-0 H2H, or Agnes were to submit to wild card Shikha Uberoi tomorrow or even Sybille, one of your newer favourites I believe, were defeated by Akiko Morigami, again tomorrow, my magcom may be found wanting!

Irresistible pressure would build, compelling me to forthwith issue laugh upon laugh.
Should more than one of your favourites be defeated, the temptation would be overwhelming and laughlaughlaughnahnahnahnah would fill page after page, oblivious to the consequences!

Such is the quantity of magcom content contained in my being when invited to demonstrate!

As long as the 'sisters' meet a quick and deadly exit, as is certainly Venus's wont of late magic; this tournament will be pleasureable for me.
You know, of course, there is extra pressure this coming week.
Andy Murray meets RF 1500 gmt tomorrow!
If there is one player who can challenge Yuryvena (mine!) for my tennis affections and affinity it is one AM!
I say 'challenge', so don't misunderstand me, but it is a very serious one!
I hope Andy prevails tomorrow and believe he will, and how he proceeds will effect my magcom in other areas!
Very, very low in quantity should Andy find failure!

However, having said all that, I am impressed and not a little surprised, at the level of your mc and would therefore advise you not to pick beautiful Maria Kirilenko as your DH.

For although I would be very pleasantly surprised should a contest between Maria and Katie take place, if it did occur, the level of opprobrium which I would direct in your benevolent and undeserving direction, would cause you to eradicate any semblance of magcom you may have, and remove your gloves!

Then, as I know from bitter experience, such actions would leave me with no alternative than to issue conscience damaging personal attacks yikes which would leave both of our magcoms in tatters!cheers

Conosu2,

Your decision to meet my Magnanimous Compassion with confrontational approaches is a very ill-advised one, as you might be aware yourself -- your position in this week is a vulnerable one! Not only OīBrien is not in a particularly favorable position, but your biggest horse, Andy Murray, is on the verge of elimination (though I sincerely hope he will win, as I said earlier)!!! Maybe your drastic switch to attacking-mode is a result of your desperation awaiting the upcoming disastrous results -- a la Pearl Harbor by the Japanese?

To counter that, and to correction your unfair tactics regarding the Demetieva - Kuzzy final (failure to pick a definite winner), I am going to nominate two Dark Horses in this one: the incredible Maria Kirilenko, and the Navratilova of the 21century (lefty)Sybille Bammer. My two-pronged attack (left and right)will definitively guarantee the free flow of my MC in the direction of Conosu, who will find it impossible to continue without it after tonightsmiley.

One of my horses will be in action today -- I see her reach the quarters facing Serena. Two of the qualifiers from your country will be in action as well.

Andyīs fate will be decided this afternoon. So, I have to get my Magcom ready for you!!!! laughcheers

Lovely post Bingting, lots of laugh's for conosu!
I need them and your mc, both Melanie South and Anne Keothavong have been beaten!
Thanks girls!doh

I'm dissapointed!
You ask for my advice concerning Yuryevna, I give it, and you do precisely the opposite of what I advised! jester

"..who will find it impossible to continue without it after tonight.."

That sounds to me as though you are not really confident Andy will go through.
Should that be the case and Andy fails (RF is world No1 and considered by many the GOAT!)it won't be totally disgraceful.
However, should any absence of mc be, in any way, shown to me by you Bing, I will immediately submit an ' off topic ' complaint, this is, after all, 'WTA Bangalore' thread!nahnah

Your 'Navratilova of the 21st century" DH doh (I know its because she's a lefty! smiley) is up very soon against Akiko Morigami (from Osaka, could be an omen there with your mentioning of Pearl Harbour!)and Akiko leads 1-0 H2H,so don't get over confident because of my ostensible vulnerability.

Nihon-koku's representative could yet play a part in causing Bingting deep regret that he raised the spectre of violent confrontation in the first place!cheers

I love your posts Bing!!! If I wrote what you wrote, you would criticise my attitude and lack of consistency!

"That is why I appreciate your insight so much.."

Yeah, for real! laugh Like today, when I responded to your request for advice concerning DH and Maria Yuryevna.rose..... (I'm not trying to steal her away!)envy

You did no more than undertook the opposite of my advice, setting up a possible (unlikely, but possible) match between our two DH's(one of your TWO winkeye but thats another matter!).
When you had categorically stated in an earlier post, that scenario was one you wished to avoid, as it would challenge, too severely, the depth and strength of magcom!

No PH and DH through, so magcom not necessary!

Bing, if we carry on like this we'll be able to communicate with each other in total shorthand, only understood by us!!

My DH is first on court 1 against Ukrainian Olga Savchuk.
Katie has added incentive, as you know; make the quarters, break 100.
Surely that should be incentive, wta 100 in practical sight, for the very first time, not only for her, but for ANY woman since the 1900's.
Such is the prejudice in the UK against women players (against women per se!) if it should happen, it won't be mentioned and it really would be a landmark, first woman to break the 100 this century!

Whereas tomorrow, quite rightly, the written medium will be full of 'Andy beats world No1'.

I know, I'm way ahead of myself, Katie has to get through tomorrow!
A step at a time!
Maria Yuryevna is also on but not until approximately 1530 gmt.cheers

I did not take your "advice" because I had the strong feeling today that AM would go through, and therefore my Magcom would be rendered superfluous!

As regarding shorthand, is it allowed on this board? Someone may report it to the mods as concealed forbidden "off-topic" conversationssmiley. So better not!

I know what you mean regarding women -- you can see half of the members here arenīt "interested" in womenīs game, to put it politely! So,I do hope your DH go through!

I will surely not be as compassionate to you in the 2nd round, when our DHs collide. It will be the other Mariaīs time to shine -- she always does well in Asia, winning two titles on that continent.

So, my friend, have some strawberries and bubbly

I agree Bingting, and as you are totally aware, this is a massive subject.

The historic subordination, isolation and marginalisation of women.

The greatest crime in the history of the planet.
The immaculate, irreplaceable, self-reproducing gender, subject to an entire history of the planet long discrimination and oppression.

Its still going on today and the way tennis treats women and so-called tennis lovers regard female tennis players is but a symptom of a much deeper malaise.

I know you will be aware this subject is far too complex, far too complicated and indeed ,much too important to be frivolously debated on a tennis forum.

It is for me in any event.

Let me say it has shocked me in the past, not so much on this forum, as I believe there are very few female posters ( and even less feminine, female posters! ) how occasionally it is women themselves who fail to recognise the visceral prevailing prejudices. Maybe they are doing ok out of the system and see nothing wrong, or are not prepared to struggle for a general improvement as opposed to their own individual success.

Whatever, as I say, much too important a subject, perhaps the biggest the planet has to face, for me to trivialise on a tennis forum.

In the future we must pick one DH and then stick to that horse come-what-may, not keep changing because of a fall!

Accept, if the horse falls, we are a loser and that will enable us to give one another ( and anyone else who wishes to join in!)sufficient, excellent, well deserved praise-both written and bubblyapplause etc. should a DH make a final or better!

At the moment, if either of our DH's get through (JJ certainly will!)I'm sure you will agree, with them being our THIRD choice, we have been ,on this occasion, somewhat lacking in genuine predictive talent.dohlaugh

So, as an example, my DH for IW is Michaella Krajicek.
If Michaella withdraws or is injured, only then should I be allowed another.
I'm picking Michella because she is one of my favourite players and, as she has had injuries so far this season, Michaella is a REAL DH.
Dominika Cibulkova is my substitute, should there be complications.

Quarter finals? laughlaughlaugh

Cool, Bing!
Michaella is my DH, so, looking at the field, if she makes quarters, I (not to mention the gorgeous Michealla!) will have done extremely well and deserving of all approbation!

Michaella is a very unilluminated DH!
She is a player whom I feel WILL do well in the future and has to start seriously going beyond early round dismissals.
She does need help.
Not totally unlike your Maria Yuryevna in that department.

Dominika Cibulkova is not dissimilar and a player I feel will eventually break through.
Perhaps, realistically , not at this tournament.
Dominika is my fall back if Michaella withdraws for one reason or another(invariably injury).

Just to inform you, because I'm pretty sure you do not regard either player as potential top competitors (certainly not Dominika).
I believe both are capable of achieving, and will realise, wta top twenty.

Where they go from there is difficult to estimate.
Agnieska Radwanska, Agnes Szavay, Maria Kirilenko, Sybille Bammer and many others achieve 'top twenty' and are finding it difficult to break into the elusive top ten.(Sybille has, but for a very short period).

Yet Marion Bartoli, who I consider to be a technically inferior to any of those mentioned, seems to have an assured place in the top ten.

I see top twenty for Michaella and Dominika in the next 12-18 months and will make further assessments at that time.

I was surprised that you did not pick A-chak for IW, one of your favorite! Wait a minute, you are not allowed to pick a top-ten -- sorry, I thought she was out of that category already!!!smileyLike Bartoli, as you mentioned, A-chak will unfortunately still remain in the top-ten for a while, which, IMO, is totally undeserved! But I am more than certain that both will exit in the second half of the year to make room for better players like Radwanska and Li Na.

Well, I truly admire your audacity, or recklessness, for picking such players as your DH, for I am more than certain that both of them will end their journey in the Californian desert in the second round at the latest!
