Gail Emms - My Olympic year (part I)

posted Jan 18, 2008

hi Gail,

Great article. It's good to see a top sportsperson can still have fun while remaining at the top of her game.

I'm tempted to ask how much attention you got on New Year's Eve in that Geri Halliwell costume, but I'll stick to badminton.

So now that it's Olympic year do you do anything to particularly build your season around that event or do you follow a similar shcedule to other years?

All the best

Gail

Nice to see an article from a fellow minority sports elite athlete.

Your somewhat of a folk hero on these boards, so keep up the good work. <ok>

I still want to see the mens olympic final hopefully between Lin Dan against Taufik Hidayatt. With Lin Dan being the more consistent but with the possiblity of Hidayatt showing how good he can be ( just look on youtube ;) ) keep up the good work and good luck in bejing.

Hi Gail, nice to read your article. Have to agree with Endland, you did look good in that costume. That aside my question to you is, will the air quality effect you all out there and if so do you expect a clean sweep by the far eastern countries?
Its great to see you play and i'd personally like to thank you (and Nathan) for getting my son interested and playing the sport. That was as a result of your silver medal in Athens. Goes to show the detractors of all sports, its not just medals that count. Many thanks and good luck, we will be watching and cheering you all the way.

Hi Gail

best of luck with your upcoming tournaments.

Keep flying the flag for the rest of us "minority" sports fans (I use the word minority with great reluctance).

Great pics of NYE, looks like you had fun.

Keep up the good work and make us proud

Thanks for your comments to Gail - I'll be forwarding your questions to her.

China's mixed double pair He Haibin and Yu Yang won the Malaysia Open title that Gail and Nathan were competing at.

http://www.tournamentsoftware.com/sport/draw.aspx?id=18612&draw=9&AspxAutoDetectCookieSupport=1

The British duo made it to the semi-final where they lost 23-21 16-21 21-16 to the eventual beaten finalists Yong Dae Lee and Hyo Jung Lee.

Of the other British pairings, David Lindley and Suzanne Rayappan, and Robert Blair and Imogen Bankier were knocked out in the second round, while Anthony Clark and Donna Kellogg, and Robin Middleton and Jenny Wallwork exited in the first round.

There will be more from Gail soon.

Cheers

No wonder names refuse to comment on this site with idiotic comments like that. Thanks for ruining Gail Emms' post by that. He hasn't come to this post with a problem, he's come saying he will try and find out something thats not really a problem anyway? Or are you of the type that likes spoiling things with idiot comments, trying to make yourself look good by slagging someone from BBC sport off.

Hi all - thanks for the comments!

All the English stars will be there in the Manchester Velodrome from 1st to 3rd Feb and there should be some really good matches.

Even some of the retired names of past badminton are coming out of the woodwork for this!!

It is not televised unfortunately, but the All England is on Sky which is 5th to 9th March.

Thanks Gail - it's a shame it's not on TV - it's about time we got a more regular showing.

Good luck in Manchester, hope the radio station doesn't try and make you go on a date again !!

Best of luck in Manchester.

I'll be tuning in on the 5th of March

Could I ask what had you done to your knee on your last photo?

Think I can clear this one up for you - there was no injury - think it was more of a dance routine or pose for the photo than anything else!

I see Gail has bounced back from illness with avengeance in the Uber Cup - destroying the Spanish girls in 2 sets, and she had a new partner, Gabby White, who has only just become a senior.

Congratulations to you both !!

Guys, I just googled this 'Gabby White' and I have to say that she is just as aesthetically pleasing as our lovely Gail here. I'm sure she can play Badminton well too.
