looks like it still hasnt been decided yet as both sides are claiming victory!

darron gibson was eligibile and FIFA let him play for ROI last year and FIFA say they arnt changing the rules so surely that means that people like gibson are still able to play for ROI.

so dont worry, u can still get a cap for ROI belfastbhoy ok

Read the article evertonian -

"Londonderry born Manchester United youngster Darron Gibson doesn't meet any of those requirements and even though he has made competitive appearances for the Republic he, under FIFA rules, is not permitted to play for our southern neighbours.

But it believed Gibson will be viewed by FIFA as a special case and be allowed to continue to play for the Republic."

ROI defeated once again :D

read my article:

"Senior Fifa sources have confirmed to us that the status quo remains and the FAI may continue to select players born in Northern Ireland," added the FAI.

An FAI spokesman added: "In October 2006, Fifa's Legal Department ruled that players born in Northern Ireland are entitled to play for the Republic of Ireland if they choose

============================================

"In a statement on FIFA's official website, the sport's governing body announced: "The Executive Committee decided to leave the current regulations regarding the eligibility of players to represent association teams unchanged."

That ultimately means players born in Northern Ireland and whose parents or grandparents do not orginate from the Republic will not be allowed to represent the FAI - even if they are in possession of an Irish passport.

They must play for the territory of the association they were born in."

I believe the above statement on the FIFA WEBSITE is far more reliable than both the bbc and sunday life......

So like I said ROI defeated once again your are now still officially BRITISH Evertonian :D Congratulations.

Maybe one day you could play for England ????

ROI defeated again....

O right so this is all do do with religion now.....

I thought we were just talking about nationalities kinda of tells me something about you and the sort of person you are..

I couldnt care less what religion someone is....

Lmao you have an Irish passport woohoo anyone from around the world can get one of those by living in the ROI for a couple of years , it means nothing, ffs look at the irish cricket team for example most of them are aussies who have been living in ROI for a few years, but when asked about the nationality they still say theyre australian......

YOUR BRITISH WHETHER YOU LIKE IT OR NOT GET OVER IT.....

from RTE:

An FAI spokesperson noted FIFA's legal department had previously backed the fielding of Northern Ireland-born players by the Republic.

'Following today's Executive Committee meeting, senior FIFA sources have confirmed to us that the status quo remains and the FAI may continue to select players born in Northern Ireland who declare that they wish to play for the Republic of Ireland,' he said

seems pretty clear to me - the only clarification given by FIFA was this. 1-0 ROI!!!

---------------------------------------------

You never mentioned it either you made it sound like it was only protestants who were bigots..

O right so its okay for protestants in gaelic football to get stick because its played by mainly catholics...... okay

The majority of football players in N.Ireland are protestants most catholics play either gaelic or others like hurling or whatever you call its simliar to hockey, so lennon was always gonna get stick if I went by your rules.......

So that point was useless.

Yeah the way ENGLAND, SCOTLAND AND WALES are one country :/

Im what way are the South keeping us in jobs?? Its being part of britain thats is keeping us in jobs.

Lets remember that the ROI was still in the Stone Age until they joined the Euro a few years ago......

I think you will find N.Ireland are ranked higher than the ROI in football.....

Rugby lmao!!!!What have Ireland ever done in Rugby, they did nothing at all at the world cup and got out performed by a "useless" England as you all called them before it...

Have they ever won a world cup ???

Yes we have a small population, whats your point...., if you look at statistics compared to the ROI the percentage of NI people working is alot more than the ROI.

So pretty much all your points are a load of rubbish.

Better luck next time...

Like it or not they are different countries now. If Ireland tries to pick players from NI who dont have any ties to the south then they should be kicked out of what ever competition they are playing in. Otherwise you might as well say Scotland can pick French players and England Brazilians...
They are different countries like it or loath it, its a fact!

I am an Irish Catholic born the North of Ireland. Therefore my allegiance (political, football, cultural etc) lies with the South of Ireland!
Due to the political situation, people in the North are entitled to "DUAL citizenship."
As I hold an Irish passport, I am therefore entitled to play for the South.
As I was born in the North, so I could also elect to play for the North.
The same with MY children. Even though we now live in London, they could also play for the N or S.

To clarify previous facts:
1) The Republic has got the highest GDP in Europe
2) It has the most Millionaires per capita
3) Produces the 2nd highest amount of computer software globally after the USA

The North:
1) Orange men
2) Technically is NOT a separate country, as it does not have its own sovereignty, currency, language, Government etc (neither are Scotland or Wales I'm afraid - merely subsidized PARTS of Britain)

Oh yeah, People who don't understand the "Irish situation" should nor really comment...

Football - WORKING class - group mentality
Rugby - Middle class
