That is so funny, do you think that, that is the new way the BBC have decided on promoting Snooker ? They could have painted the legs Silver couldnt they ! They should make a crowd next week with Some of the crwod asleep , some eating sweets and the rest listening to Virgo on those ear things smiley

Very hard to say who will win.
I have mentioned Selby and Day, but like I said with so many good players its hard to say.
There will probably be surprises but the longer format does mean it can be a bit of a leveler with the top players playing better.
Anyway we'll soon find out. smiley

I think that the revised format is good and will encourage more people to watch and is a small sign that snooker is moving forward. To try and get more people to support Tournaments wouldnt it be helpful to change the layout of matches and have more of the bigger games later in the day so fans can attend and watch rather than be at work. Im sure that there are a lot of people who have to decide what events to go to depending on booking time off of work. Wouldnt re-arranging Match times help and isnt that one reason why the League is so well supported.

The new format is another kick in the belly of snooker by people who have little understanding and are only interested in a cheaper version.
Four tables in operation means we will see less not more.
Words fail me.

no you will see the same amounts of live matchess.....

the TV Stages of the tournament is the same in duration 9 days....

but in the past the tv stage of the UK has started at the last 16 stage this year its last 32 thats why they need 4 tables........

i know with 4 matches ran at the same time some people will miss out on seing theire favarate players play but not miss out on televised snooker though..........

This smacks of compromise for the sake of it. Lets not forget this is the NO.2 tournament in snooker calender - so to have 4 table set-up devalues the championship.

There are so many mouth-watering / intriguing match-ups in the last 32 its unavoidable that we are being forced to miss certain matches that we otherwise would have keenly followed.

Wild, last year we had interactive and Im sure I watched 13 days. This stinks of a bbc set-up, cheap cheap cheap. God does nothing ever change with them, oxford and cambridge clowns that are unemployable at most levels.

no it was 9 days moondan......

started on saturday finish the following sunday...

its been that way for as long as i remember and i go back (because in old) to the early 80s lol

i agree though having 4 tables devalues the event.....so being the second only to the world championship it should be a 13 or 14 day TV Tournament with 2 tables in operation like the worlds...........

Wild, I am getting old and memories do play tricks, but Im sure I watched interactive for the full 15 days last year.
Thats what concerns me this is about the bbc not having to pay for commentary on interactive for the duration of the tournament.
My comments about oxford and cambridge grads I withdraw as only the brave would have anything to do with the people who run snooker, and I did spend 2 years years dodging the scouts at St Hildas from 68 to 70 and having breakfast at georges in the market at 6 oclock everymorning. Did in a few pair of loons on the gate, but those parts were kissed better later in between her lectures.
Oh what lovelly days

im glad to see that this championship has been given more money. the revised format could prove to be a good thing for people to see their favourite. I think osullivan and day could do well this time around dont know where they are in respective halfs but hey lol.

the guy who wrote this raticle knows very litle about snooker because after the world championship in april he said trumpwas the young player of the tournament and he never won a match and mark allen was the best young player because he beat doherty and lost in a close match to stevens
this is typcial english bias from the bbc journalist doh

LOL you guys are going to get booted off the forum. You can't criticise the BBC or one of their own. Remember the John Parrott shenanigans against Davis in the spring? What about that article I started about Hazel Irvine?

While we're at it, Saj, seeing as you work for the BBC any chance of some decent coverage from you guys? Remember the Grand Prix? And The Northern Ireland Trophy. And the Shanghai Masters.

Any town with a motto; 'If you're bored, Telford' says everything.

The worst location and venue in snooker (apart from the oasis in Swindon, but they don't go there no more)

Personally I loved the UK in York lasting two weeks however the fact that it's been crammed into 9 days and with the genius of the way the qualifying draw works I'm of the opinion that the WSA has proven that they manage an event like the UK into a smaller timeframe (alright with the downside that some early round matches won't be televised which is a shame) and therefore they can surely upgrade some events or future new events into the same format with the same ranking points.

An opinion poll conducted a couple of years ago suggested the public would like to see longer matches and it also means the better player is more likely to progress and it means we'll see better snooker from the top players as they don't need to panic if they go 3-0 down like in a best of 9.
