Spain are looking fantastic again Sweden. Hopefully Sweden get frustrated...a few red cards would set their game with Latvia up nicely.

I should be happy at the result tonight, but all I can think about is the points we have thrown away against Iceland. If it was just a case of beating Spain, then I could at least get excited about it, but Sweden to lose against Latvia? Even us Irish don't have that much luck!

From an Englishman - superb stuff. Thoroughly enjoyed watching the game on BBCi - two excellent goals and loads of spirit.

The upshot of this is you're not gonna be seeded six anymore, 3 or 4 maybe, giving you a REAL chance of qualifying next time out.

hopefully!

no matter what happens mid week we took it to the last day in a near impossible group i think that is good enough for me!

If Spain wins tonight how can norn iron qualify? We would be equal on points with sweden should they lose against latvia and we beat spain. Sweden have superior goal difference though?

boratspider - it goes on results against the side that you are equal on points with, and as we've tken 4 points off Sweden, we would go through. My own feeling is that the players will look back on this campaign and think - what if? At the start of the campaign we would have snatched at the chance to be in the current situation that we are in, but reflecting on our actual results, it seems like a great chance has been thrown away. That may seem harsh, but the opportunities to achieve something truely great is rare for countries like ours, so rather than be the brave, plucky Irish side, it would have been nice to be the side that has qualified................ but it's not quite over yet!

Whatever happens on Wed night it has been a great recovery for a team with far fewer resources than many team with a lot more. Well done to all the team management and supporters another great night in our glorious history.
As to the match you can talk as long as you like about the technical skill of these foreign teams, but there was a lot of shirt pulling, pushing and bundling off the ball that took place from the danes last night. I am absolutely delighted that once again the wee man rubbed the noses of the so called top teams in the dirt. Great result and great goals. I wonder what the headlines would have been this morning if limp along Owen had scored a similar one for England. I hope, I really do England qualify, they are my second team, but it is time they played the type of players N.I has, ones who they can rely on to give their all for the cause of country. I think also the supporters of England should have a long hard look at how Scotland and N.I supporters actually do support their team. I hope Nigel stays for the world cup campaign, I think he will do a good job. As for Wed, a message to the Spanish, remember 1982.

As an English men I hope you don't bite my head off for saying this but well done to you.

I didn't see the match but heard it off the beeb radio and it sounded like you did an almighty great job.

You're not Brazilian but you don't need to be.

By the way I'm also quarter Frenchsmiley)

Who was that disgraceful second commentator on the Irish match last night? Laughing with glee when the opposition missed? Losing control with delight when the Irish scored? Cackling like a school child in the background? It was awful. When are commentators going to remember that they are there to provide a fair and balanced assessment of the play, not act as rabble rousers for one side or the other? Whoever he was, he should be sacked instantly.

haha, he's a great commentator. Both Armstrong and Fullerton are great together, funny to listen to and a true Norn Iron legend.
He is as delighted with the lads performances as the rest of us in the country where he was commentating.
If you don't like it you can always change channel?

I'm sure he was delighted. I'm not saying he can't be. What I am saying is that it is his job as a commentator to keep his personal feelings as just that - personal feelings. A commentator is there to provide expert analysis and opinion to help me, the viewer, not to start screaming like a schoolboy who's got his first glimpse of the magazines on the top shelf. He's paid to be a commentator, not a supporter- otherwise, why not have any fan from the street in the commentary box? Good commentary generates excitment by being cool and dispassionate, allowing the viewer to concentrate on the action, not be distracted from it. It's a problem right across the BBC and ITV.

I have to say, NI and Scotlands groups were both tougher than Englands, so well done to both teams for working so hard; amazes me that we struggled so much in the group we were in, whereas NI are picking up points against top teams like Denmark and Spain left right and centre. If only England had the same fighting spirit in the team!

It was actually John O'Neill who was commentating last night with Jackie Fullerton - not Gerry Armstrong. Although, it would be nice for Gerry to commentate on the Spain game for obvious reasons. Jackie is a great guy but he, unfortunately, likes to talk about his neighbours or recall memories of Ballymena playing Crusaders 30 years ago rather than comment on the game. It also doesn't help when he comes off with comments such as "Pick that out" when a goal is scored - especially when its his commentary which is played during the Match of the Day highlights which is shown nationally - how embarrassing!!! I'm sorry to pick on Jackie as I know that he is a national treasure to NI fans but sometimes turning the TV down and putting on Radio Ulster for commentary is a better option. Don't take this to heart Jackie, things wouldn't be the same without you. P.S. The most important thing though is the result - WELL DONE BOYS!!! GAWA

From a Danes persective: What a shity' game! But my respect to Northern Ireland who have shown that they can become something great. Together with Scotland they can become a real warrows of the Britan. However.. Denmarks falliure to qualifier to a tournament for the second time in row have shown that we are not what we were. Denmark must accept that we not belong anmong europes great football nations anymore

I love listening to the Norn Iron commentators.

The banter and colloquialism's they use add to the atmosphere of our matches.

They speak in true norn iron fashion and have stuck by our boys no matter what.

if they should giggle with complete shock and overwhelming happiness it does not bother me in the slightest. They are only responding in exactly the same way as the rest of us.

And in comparison with other commentators throughout Britain, if a Norn Iron player makes a rash challenge or a descision should go our way when it maybe shouldnt have - Jackie, Gerry, John or whoever it may be will be the first to say heyby sort that out! We didn't deserve that!

Thanks for the memories lads.

i was at the game it was most amazing. I've been to all the home qualifiers but that was possibly my favourite. Then to make it even better this morning when i was leavin my bro bck to the airport we met the whole n.i team and i got to speak to them and shake their hands. I have actually touched david healy honestly their is no one else i would rather meet than the n.i team and this mornin my dream came true.

its going to be very difficult for northern ireland to win in spain. spain need to win for 2 reasons to win the group as sweden will beat latvia but also the players will be fighting for a place in the squad and looking to impress also they need to make up for the cock up they made at windsor park winkeye
