It will take i feel another season for everyone to gel like arsenal have been doing. With the likes of Bale, Kaboul, Tarrabt, Boateng and perhaps Kim.....they are all young with no prem experience so lets not hope too much for this season but one things for sure, the future my friends and foes is spurzzz. !!!

True, but remember that Berbs, Zokora and our younger players, Dawson, Thud, Lennon have another year under their belts and are more experienced now. They will be better this year, mark my words!

I agree with Spursoft67,
We have to wait and see what he can bring in England. Addaption and time therefore are maybe needed, because playing in the premier league is a total different ballgame!!
But a real prospect he certainly is. And Martin Jol can be the authority this guy seems to need.

When he wasn't selected for the German team he threatened to chose for Ghana. Yes, that's still possible.
But it shows that he also has an attitude!!

He's an attacking midfielder but is he central or does he prefer a side and in that case which side does he play!!

Spurs have needed a left sided player since Ginola left. If this guy's preference is central midfield, Spurs surely have to cut some players loose - Tainio, Huddlestone, Zokora, Jenas, Taarabt, Murphy, Malbranque... just how many naturally central midfielders do you need?

Ok some of these guys can play flanks but none of them is an out an out winger nor a naturally left-sided midfield player. Lennon is your only real, established winger I would say. That's not too clever in my opinion.

Bale is the only one in the squad who could be called left-sided (ok there's Assou-Ekotto and Lee but you know what I'm saying) and I reckon he's a wing back not a winger.

Anyway. Good luck to Spurs - and by the way besides this small grumble about your midfield, I wholeheartedly agree with your optimism with regard to the coming season. I'm a Liverpool fan and wish we could swap signings - Bale and Bent for Heinze (if it happens) and Torres for starters. People question Bent at 17 million but he's much less of a risk than Torrid at 25 million.

As for Heinze any Manure fan will tell you he's been half the player since doing his cruciate in - on top of which at 6.8 million for a crocked 29-year old the fee for Bale starts to look like common sense!!

Am I right in saying this could well be your initial starting line-up next season? Obviously the strikers will rotate a lot - but do you see Zokora and Jenas as first picks or will Huddlestone be getting the nod?

Robinson (the weakest link)
Bale
Chimbonda
King
Dawson
Zokora
Jenas
Malbranque
Lennon
Berbatov/Bent
Keane/Defoe

I would still like to see us sign an out and out left winger, but from what i have seen taarabt looks to be good there! and think he will be good this season!

But, i'm pleased with the signigs we've made! Young with lots of talent!! And most from the UK!! Unlike the scum!!

Well, good luck for the season! Us Yids need to cheer them on and lets hope this time next year we wil be preapring for a champions league qualifier!!!

I knew Uncle Martin had the man he really wanted when Petrov signed for City, like all our transfers this summer it dragged on a bit but MJ knows exactly what hes doing, the Dutch National team can take a running jump if they think they are getting him after the Euro Champs in 2008, hes going nowhere that will be the season we win the league!!! The building continues and the talent continues to flow into WHL, the glory days are back, silverware this year and a serious title challenge in the coming 2 years, its what Unlce Martin promised all along, give me 5 years and we will be challenging, well i trust him and all fellow Spurs fans should trust him aswell, he wont let us down. "seen as one of three best in his generation out of all Europe"

I've never heard of him! How can he be??? And that's not to say I don't know my football, it's just that the promising players usually get a bit of publicity if they're any good...

And think about it, if he's been mostly a substitue for Hertha (who finished 10th in the league), he's hardly going to be first team material for Tottenham.

Same old Spurs, every season the same old nonsense come from their mouths. This season will prove one thing and that is that M Jol is not all that. He got lucky by signing Berbatov but I dont think he really has a clue. Finishing 5th seems all well and good but outside the top 4 the quality is shocking. Add to that Arsenal's last 2 seasons which have been pretty poor by their standards. Spurs are overated and their fans delluded as usual. De ja vu anyone???

Response to all comments.

Boateng is a dynamic midfielder, a ball winner which we have needed for a while. He had 14 assists last season, that means he must of created a lot more. Give chances to Berbatov, Keane, Bent & Defoe and they will convert them. At 5 million for an international (young player of the year) the worse that can happen is we sell him in a few years for a big profit (a la Carrick).

Bent although overpriced is a quality striker, he has been Top or almost English scorer for a few seasons (he finished 3rd behind Van Nistleroy and Henry 2 years ago) playing for a struggling Club.

Kaboul U21 skipper for France, cover for King gives us extra depth, and he can strike a ball, watch the preseason game 30-35 yarder smashed into the upright. Value will increase.

Bale adds width if necessary in midfield, and will probably score 4 or 5 free kicks (could be worth a few points) and his delivery of corners and free kicks (not in a direct goal scoring opportunity), again a youngster who's value will increase. We have bought him before his value rockets.

Taarabt can play either wing (stronger on the left), or central midfield gives us options and is described as the new Zidane and his value will sore. Looked quality v Spammers last year and in pre-season. Like Bale he can deliver corners and free kicks. He is 17 and will only improve/increase in value

Add to those Berchichie U17 Spanish player, left footed one for the very near future, could see him at LB with Bale in front of him.

With regard to finances we sold Carrick for 18 million, Ghaly gone for 3 million hopefully Mido for 6 million, previously we have pretty much balanced the books buy recouping money on transfers as much as spending before this season.... transfers of the following
Ziegler, Yates, Davenport, Fulop, Reid, Marney, Kelly, Mounir El Hamdoui, Rasiak, Brown, Paramot, Sean Davis, Simon Davies, Pedro Mendes, Edman, Kanoute, Atouba
Add to that the money for the Mansion and Puma deals plus the money for 5th place (about 7 million) U.E.F.A. Cup TV money plus ticket sales for games up to 1/4 and Semi Finals in the F.A. Cup, Carling Cup and U.E.F.A. Cup competitions puts us in a strong financial position

Starting line up will be
Robinson (can't have a season as bad as last year)

Chimbonda...... Dawson..Kaboul........Bale

Lennon .........Zokora..Boateng....Taarabt

........................Keane
.......................Berbatov

King probably back when fit & Rocha as cover at CD
Stalteri and Ifil cover at RB
Lee and Ekotto cover at LB
Routledge and Malbranque cover at RM
Tainio or Jenas and Malbranque cover at LM
Tainio, Jenas, Huddlestone and Malbranque as cover at CM
Bent and Defoe cover at CF

We have so many options, and this could/should be our season.... and the future certainly is bright.

The future is Bright "The future is Blue & White" COYS

Boateng can play on the right of midfield as well as CM, the Hertha team he was in was quite poor, some play better when they play with better players. Most cant belive Hertha sold him but the money you paid is a lot in the Bundesliga, I thought you guys needed an AM??

Spurs conceded too many goals, that was due to the fact King was injured most of the season and we didn't have adequate cover in Gardener but now have Kaboul and in emergency Rocha.

Sounds like an exciting signing and I think along with Taarabt he will slowly be introduced this year. He wont be a starter but then again Lennon wasn't going to be so we might get lucky.

I like how we are not only buying young english talent but are looking across europe also. Not all these players will make it but sometimes you need to take a few gambles. We still need an out and out left winger tho, and this should be the priority.

As for the amount of midfielders we have, I think Murphy and possible Tainio will go sometime soon. Both haven't really cut it.

maderic- i totally agree with your choices, glad to see youd give boateng and tarrabt a chance, i think steed will come good, its just taking him a while to settle. However one point i disagree with is i think it wont take long for Bent to surpass Keane as berbs partner.

Boateng and Kaboul is exactly the sort of players you need to sign to compete with the top 4. You cant sign the world stars that they do, so u just gotta get in there when they are young, b4 they become galacticos.

But at some point soon the merry go round has to stop, otherwise every season you will have the problem of having to bed new players in. And for the record it will be sad for all the dawson fanatics when kaboul usurps him from the team. the boy still has much to learn. And for those who call robbo the weak link....are u mad???

Defence one man will not change your defence? juist becoz king is fit will not make much difference maybe save you 7 goals this season, midfield you have a creative player better than emre ? no, you have a striker as natural at scoring as owen ? NO! you have a better manager no? better fans no ? so i think we can be a bit more optimistic than you!

clown-its really cute to see such blind, stupid optimism. Given is about the only player in your team who would get into ours, but robbo is hardly the bad keeper that most fools like to portray him as. and please keep doing it, cos we dont want him to be rated so the big clubs stay away. Owen? hes lost it mate im sorry to say. Emre? he wont be there long. Big sam? hope you like long ball. Better fans? sorry but spurs only had 1 game lover that 31,000 last season, whereas newc had quite a lot where the ground was 3/4 or half full. You cannot and will not compete with us

clown unknown is obviously more deluded than most of the hardcore spurs fans.
A club like Newcastle should have been top 4 a long time ago due to their income and stadium but they are balls. AN amazing strikeforce, a midfield with the dirtiest attitude in the premiership (Dyer,Emre,Barton) joined with a second rate defence (carr, ramage) Newcastle should be looking to avoid the horrors that happened with sheff utd (danny webber)

i believe the furture is exiting for spurs and although i dont EXPECT us to break the top four, the future is looking good at white harte lane

Yes Given is better than Robo. Given is for me the best keeper in the Prem (mind you he does get the practice.
Dawson plays Kings role when King is injured, but is awesome when they play as a partnership. Bale and Kaboul strengthen our defence.
Emre is gifted, how many goals did he score last year (Jenas 7 and was injured for part of it) (Prince got 14 assists from subs bench) how many assists Emre. Give me Lennon over Emre anyway.
Berby scored a few goals last year, I believe Owen scored his first for Newcastle in over a year (qoute sky Sports) Bent has been one of the top or top scorers for a few yrs now in a poor team. Owen was a great striker.... WAS!!!! How long will he be fit. By the way a new manager does not make you great, where did you finish last season. You have more local fans, but you have nothing else to do in Newcastle.... No choice. In a City with as many clubs as London has, with the rich Chelski recruiting all the kids and the Goons success we still have a bigger following, don't underestimate our fan base.
How far did you get in Europe last year....
