EL_NANDO (U1919045) posted Oct 9, 2006 Couldn't agree more. I was shocked when I saw the news. I had no idea his condition was life threatening at this point. I had no idea either that he had a child less than one year old, which is the worst bit. RIP Paul.

SportingNonsense (U5345301) posted Oct 9, 2006 I am truely shocked and saddened with the news. I had thought that he was doing well in his fight but i guess not. Its just not right that he's died so early in life and he surely would have won a world championship if it was not for cancer.

wellnow (U6053540) posted Oct 10, 2006 I agree. This was actually quite a big shock to me as I woke up to the news. I remember seeing him playing recently and thinking to myself, he must have got over the worst of it. How brave of him to play on even whilst in pain. It's a great tragedy and a loss to snooker worldwide.

ohforfs (U2717623) posted Oct 10, 2006 I was really shocked and upset too to hear this news this morning. I had cancer at 24 (10 years ago) and recovered. Having also lost my Mum to the desease I am always aware how short life is. For some reason Paul was such a heroic and talented player that I couldn't imagine he would lose this battle. So very sad.

CDP1979 (U5391952) posted Oct 10, 2006 My Nomination for the BBC's Sports Personality of the Year Award has to go to the sadly departed Paul Hunter. To battle on with the game he loved, as he did in this years World Championship, whilst facing up to such a terrible illness is the most heroic thing seen in any sporting arena this year.
