Season Make-or-Break

I'm not certain that's true.

Reading Leeds and QPR maybe are setting the standard, but we are currently only 6 points outside the playoffs.

Admittedly 0 points from those three won't do us much good, but even three draws, and I can still see us being within touching distance of 6th.

Tell you the truth though, as much as I want promotion/play-offs, a mid table obscure finish would be a novel change. By my reckoning, we haven't had a mid table nothing to play for finish since 2003, we've either been in a promotion or relegation scrap.

Unless you count our first season in the Championship under Taylor, we were in a relegation scrap but was well safe with time to spare.

Aside from that i've got to agree with waggysdog, ok they won't decide whether or not we make the play-offs as it's too early in the season
But they will give us an idea of how good we stand up against the better teams in the division which you've got to do to get in the play-offs and you've certainly got to do to win them

Exciting times ahead i hope, 6 or 7 points from the next 3 games and it'll be difficult to stay "under the radar" much longer.

yeah not sure if i totally agree, we need to remember that we are playing in a league where any team can beat anyone else home or away despite form and position in the table, 9 out of 9 (v unlikely) would position us brilliantly as much as 0 points from 9 would position us badly, the point is that in this league it doesn't take much to put a run on the playoffs or a run on the bottom 3, I think we'll get 4 or 5 points from these next games and that'll keep us where we are which i'm very comfortable with

Teams at the top accumulate points (state the obvious I know)and if you slip up in a few games they can be hard to make up. Wins at the bottom make a huge difference as we have seen in the last few weeks. 5 or 6 points from these games will mean we have denied our rivals points as well and will be a good return

Given our troubles at the start of the season, I only wanted two things......
1. Avoid a relegation scrap.
2. Finish higher in the table than Leeds.

As we are now progressing and have put our troubles behind us, the future is looking distinctly brighter.
As such instead of wanting two things to happen, I would now love for two things to happen......
1. Reach a play off position.
2. Knock Leeds out of the play off, either in the home/away legs, or better still at Wembley!

The future is Black & Amber.

Our real target has to be squeezing in at 6th. I imagine QPR, Cardiff, Leeds and Swansea will complete the top 4 so taking down Watford, Reading, Norwich, Forest, Burnley should be our main priority.
With all of these competing for two places it's going to be very tight.
I can only see us getting a maximum 4-5 points out of the next 3 games. Hope I'm wrong.

I'm just glad we have the beginnings of a real team to look forward to next season, if we get anywhere near the play-offs this season it will be a massive achievement. 2012 we will be a real force the way it's going. It goes to prove you have to give managers time to turn things around.

I agree with the article. If we fail to get a decent return from those games there are too many teams on similar points who can capitalise and ensure we become further and further away from the play offs.

I predict 2 draws then a win against Leeds.

QPR haven't won a game yet this year, there's no reason why we shouldn't be looking to get a result against them, they seem to be wavering a bit.

a lot will depend on how clinical the strikers are...not a criticism, but fryatt has scored 2, but missed 3 or 4 good chances, while mclean missed a pretty glaring oppurtunity on saturday..as i say not criticising, but against the top teams, especially away at reading, you may only get 1 good chance, and you need your strikers to bury it..im more confident they will then if folan and fagan was still up there..

Leeds are a poor club who won't go up.

Lets see how little we mean when we beat you at the KC in a couple of weeks eh? ;)

Clearly we do mean something to you or you wouldn't bother read the posts on our board.
Could it be that we have actually got under YOUR skin with the fact that we have a very real possibility of making & meeting you in the play offs and given your play off history, acutally knocking you out?

You have a poor fan base, living in the past, that can't be bothered to come and watch your home games!
You may indeed have a chance at promotion. If you make it good luck.
I for one will enjoy watching you getting a good whipping every week!
48,000 crying Leeds fans looks much better on TV as opposed to the 23,000 whinging fans than moaned when we took at point at your dump (yes, I was there)!

I think you will find a different team when you come to the KC (if you can be bothered to come yourself?) so don't count your chickens yet, you may end up with egg on your face!

I think our run in 3 seasons ago from 26 matches played was 11 wins, 4 draws and 5 defeats. A similar run in this time will get us 3rd or 4th place. It's do-able.
