Pretty Happy with this appointment. It seems the board have taken their time to appoint the person they feel is right for the job instead of rushing into a quick fix. Lets hope he can work miracles on what will be sure to be a very limited budget as well as getting the best out of many of our under-performing players we already have. UTG!

Sounds as though he's made a few recommendations for improvement, and was impressed with our support the other night.

I liked the way Doncaster played under Penney, and they got successive promotions, so he's a bit of a hero up there.

He is a legend at Donny!

Lets hope the board give hime the 3 signing that they have promised! Centre back, Centre Mid and Striker anyone??

His style is to play footy, so that is good?

Im happy with this one. Think some gashaeads were in a dreamland expecting some big name.

His track record speaks for itself and think he'll prove to be a good appointment

"His style is to play footy, so that is good?"

I am glad that is the case and I don't think anyone wanted to go down the long ball style route which we had under Atkins.

Very much looking forward to tomorrows game now and to see who we get in.

I did notice on the article on the OS that they did interview a number of people still in employment which must of been Dean Holdsworth and Paul Buckle?

I personally think this is a big name for Rovers and I'm happy with his appointment. Can work with a shoestring budget and plays proper football, hopefully although 'Patto' is still in charge tomorrow, that Penney will have some input and the players will respond!! Up the Gas!!

I'm very happy with this. It would appear that his plan is to sign players from the lower leagues, which people on here have been saying for ages! I'm just relieved its not Patterson! Will be interesting to see which players penney gets in. The board must know that they need to back him financially if we're going to stay up.

Very happy with this appointment

has greater experience and his teams play the attacking football style that we're used to seeing

hopefully he's got all his errors out at Oldham

Needs to sort the defence out first and foremost . . . may have to lose Patterson and get in someone Dave wants.

maybe sell some deadwood and desperately need a stronger centre back partnership, someone who knows where the net is and either a playmaker that has creativity and great distribution or heavily work on getting Brown to the level he should be performing at

"that Penney will have some input and the players will respond!!"

Also it will be a chance for players to make a good first/second impression on the new manager. Hopefully we will see a good performance tomorrow.

Lets get behind them now and turn up in numbers tomorrow night. Create an atmosphere and show him what great, long suffering supporters we are!

Up the gas, come on!

"Good luck, your going to need it."

oafcnutcase - what are your thoughts on him as a manager?

From what i read earlier penney said that after his last job he would only take the right job perhaps because of his experiances at Oldham and them not being the right club for him?

apt name, as a penny is about as much as his transfer kitty will be,

Realisticly he's a pritty big manager for the gas (not trying to offend) and should see you stay up,

He may well do a coppell if the board don't back him tho,

I'm happy too!
If it goes pear-shaped we can't really criticize the board...on paper he's a good candidate.
As everyone has said, he did wonders with Doncaster. Parallels with GJ in some ways. Some have queried whether he is a manager for the higher divisions but let's just stay in this one first !!
(Perhaps he can persuade the Heffer to come back!)
Anyway, 'tis done, let's turn out tomorrow and give him our full support.....and that goes for the team too!!

AH84 aka Philippe Gilbert
-----------------------------------
In answer to your question it will be route one and based on giving nothing away at the back and trying to pinch wins even at home to Dag& Red if last year is anything to go by, as said i live in south west and go up every week to watch Oldham, fans gave up on him last season and its proved hard to get them back now, he talks a good game give him that, wonder if worthington, heffernan, jason price, dean brill all the usual rubbish he has will follow him back there
