Strong Euro squad

Why is Agger missing...? Can't be for the rest when Carragher and SKrtel are selected ahead of him. Pacheco is missing too.

I expected Gerrard to be left out but expected a few more too.

Hopefully, Shelvey will get a run out.

I despair of Roy already. Agger is by far the best footballing centre back at the club, yet he is constantly overlooked for those more willing to take an uncompromising attitude to defending

Yeah would like Shelvey to be given a chance, as well as Pacheco, otherwise I'd keep a fairly solid team out and try and get some momentum.

Still can't believe Roy is picking Skrtel ahead of Agger. Joke.

Hopefully the lads can give us something to smile about on Thursday night.
But FC Utrecht are totally up for it.
I was reading the Dutch papers this morning and the assistant coach Jan Wouters was looking forward to the game.

He says, "what is better than playing Liverpool? During training the players are as sharp as a knife. That's how much effort they're putting in."

He goes on to say, "It's all about beginning sharp and concentration, making sure you win the challenges. As a group we need to have a we're not going to lose this match mentality."

So they are up for it and have a very good home record. They are a good hard team and are not afraid to tackle.
Keep an eye on young striker Ricky van Wolfswinkel - he's scoring more than Suarez and Toivonen in the Dutch League.

I agree with the Agger thing but I don't want to see the younger players coming on until the game's dead and buried though. Having said that it may be someone like Shelvey stepping up and taking his chance will be just what we need. Who knows ay? As long as we win they can chuck Roy up[ front for all I care! ;)

as someone who actually stayed up to watch the dross v northampton i am getting a bit riled by roy seemingly blaming it all on pacheco.

the palyers who did the damage are all in this squad while the MOTM for us is dropped. Pacheco... i am wondering if he is injured or what and can't find any detial.

This all hangs on roys head. fail to win, upset the team, tinker whatever you say but he's got to improve things quickly

Would prefer to see a full strength side in Europe. If Gerrard isn't playing hopefully Lucas can get a game playing as an attacking midfielder. With all the changes to the starting 11 I don't know how the players are supposed to get a rhythm. We are doing more rotation that Rafa did at the moment and I don't think that is a good thing.

If Hodgson is travelling separately lets hope its to see a striker who can join us on loan.

Dont understand why Gerrard is being rested. its early in the season, we're not exactly playing pressurised games at the top of the lge and would Roy have rested him if we were in the CL. "Rested for Blackpool" is a new one on me. heady days indeed...
If we get into a relegation battle then by all means rest players for the diadora mickey mouse europa lge. We're heading into oblivion but not with a bang but a whimper.

For Agger to be left out it's surely got to be an injury or knock as we haven't got a proper left or left footed defender back there. I assume Kelly will play there and Carra on the right or visca versa.

We should be ok without Stevie, Torres needs to opportunity to sharpen up and i think he will bag a goal or more and hopefully kick on.

Pacheco didn't play well at all last match so i can understand why he isn't being played but maybe a drop is a bit much as opposed to bench. He will come good though.

We having an awkward time atm and lets hope we can get ourselves sorted.

Are you guys seriously bothered about the Europa league? Perhaps Gerrard is the only one of the squad in any kind of form therefore been rested.
If you had bothered to do research you would have seen that Hodgson uses the Europa League to try out different players. He rotated most of the time at Fulham and they reached the final. The fact is our European form is a lot better than our domestic form.

So please lay off Roy when it comes to the Europa League, im more concerned about our league performances.

Give the guy a chance to get it right before slating him to the hills.

True fans support the club no matter what.

This is asking for trouble. Given that Gerrard is not playing it's less likely we will win, and subsequently if we don't, it heaps more pressure on the team and the manager that our captain was left at home.

Rested for Blackpool on Sunday? Pff. That says it all, the massive game that is Blackpool at home.

Torrad, I went to see them play Celtic (not much kop, I know) but they made them look like schoolboys. Was 4-0 and it should have been 7 or 8 nil.

They wouldn't give them the ball. And when they did - they won it back.

They are so up for this. I live in the Dam and a lot of my mates are FC Utrecht fans. They cant wait.

The Pool should do it, but Hodgson is not taking this one seriously enough.

I'll send him that email my friend. <ok>

Watch out for the guy called Van Wolfswinkel. By the time youve said his name, he's gone by you and sticking em in the net.

2 were from penos, but he makes em and scores em.

Liverpool FC is like a sports car from the 1980's. It was good at the time but drag it out of the garage now & it'll be beaten by a 2010 Nissan Micra - e.g Northampton.

Nice to have the CL scouse free. Will be next season too. Couldn't be happier :)

In which you must be a sad person, if that's the level of your happiness. Considering the teams we have beaten in the competiton - Real Madrid, AC Milan, Inter, Chelsea, Barcelona, Arsenal (not to mention the highest goals scored in one game in the competiton's history) - do any of the current CL participants from the EPL fare a stronger record? Man United won it against Chelsea after a draw, they lost to Barcelona in another final. Arsenal had their chance in 2006, their only chance.

Since the Premiership had begun in 1993, only Man United have won the CL out of England, and add to that Liverpool. We have the record of five wins of any British team in the competition, and if you wish to keep things recent, we still won it out of nowhere in 2005, not to mention having reached two finals in three years, both of which was against arguably one of the best teams at the time.

So where you're off on a tangent about 'not being happier', you don't really know what you are talking about. No sense, but pure non-sense.

Besides that tripe of a comment, what we need are a few more stern playable players to coincide with the likes of Gerrard and Torres. Of course we miss Alonso, not so much Mascherano, but definitely someone like Benayoun. Poulson hasnt come up to scratch and we're still to see more from Maxi. And our left-back position seems to be a curse, I don't have much faith in Konchesky and Aurelio is hardly fit enough at the best of times.

Reina is right, we will need to be patient because the ironing out of the creases will not finish within the next weeks, more like months.

-----------------------------------------------
Actually, it's not about any bias, I think it's wrongly timed.

For example, yesterday, Chelsea and Arsenal played. The main football story? Rooney not going to Spain to play today.

In both cases, the story should have been lower down the priority list until the day of the game.

Unless they may justify it by it being new news.

Overall though, resting Gerrard in September! <yikes> Are things really that bad at Liverpool?

Contradicting yourself a bit don't you think. Saying Blackpool will be an easier match when there no guarantees and a negative result against Blackpool would hurt a lot more than against Utretch.

What an absolute joke, is Gerrard really so knackered that he needs to be left out of this game? At least he's kept Torres in, shame he didn't do that against Northampton, that way Liverpool might actually still be in that competition-and perhaps more importantly, Torres might have scored a few goals and given himself a bit of confidence.

I think Hodgson needs to wake up and realise that Liverpool are just not a very good team these days. Gerrard or no Gerrard, they could easily lose this match.

Utrecht obviously get well up for their home games- seven games played in the Eredivisie this season, 3 away defeats, 4 home wins. Seriously, why is Hodgson taking his chances?

Gerrard is getting past it, as all players do at some point. And Torres is either out of form or injury prone and of course injury affects form. I can honestly say for the first time in years, with enough cash, I wouldn't buy either for Villa. And these are pools best players. IMO, they'll finish mid-table at best, because their players are very average. Now if utd and chelsea can just see it to mess their clubs up, all will be dandy. <laugh>

posted Sep 29, 2010

Finish mid-table? As a Villa fan he's laughing. Seen a lot of comments on here about things being so bad because of this and that but the lack of progress is easily understandable, only some of these comments look past the facts and current status quo and can only see 'bad things', like real soothsayers. Everything is an indication until things pick up, then the same BS comes out.

"Are things really that bad for Liverpool?" Yep, they are, and will forever be with most people. Resting Gerrard could be down to a few reasons, and yet comments are all over the place about it. We're meant to cope without him and when he's not used, it's an indication of doom and gloom.

And people saying Torres is fed up playing for us, just dont know what you're talking about. He's fed up of LFC not achieving what it should, why he came to us. First season with new players, new manager, not a particularly European experienced one, and people are playing 'Ker-Plunk' all over it.

liverpool started slowly but with a few wins we are on our way.. there are teams above us who have had amazing starts better than they could have expected and i expect them to fall by the wayside around christmas.
Hodgson knows what he is doing, giving everyone an opportunity to stake a claim. Has anyone realised that the January transfer window is the most important one. It will be a massive window of opportunity for us. I expect a lot of deals to be taking place. Players coming in im not sure about, but from what ive seen so far players out could be

Babel
Ngog
Kuyt
Lucas

Which means that we are going to be in the market for two decent strikers a winger and a decent centre midfielder.
