If we get a Dm and CB + a goalkeeper than we can be genuine title contenders. But great win today COYG :)

Bit early for that isn't it? Congrats with the 6-0. But remember you struggled against 10 men (seemed like 9 with Agger).

Wait to the injuries pile up for all the teams.

I was impressed by the teams closing down play and overall defending.

Arsenal should have broken a record for most goals scored in a PL game. They are too complacent an it will cost them again.

Weren't Spurs meant to have their names already in the CL group stages?

Sorry to put a negative spin on a good victory for you guys BUT you had a great start last year (beating everton by 6) and look what happened over the course of the season.

This result didnt surprise me because we know Arsenal have a good history at getting big scoreboard results against the smaller teams but also you seemingly get defeated against better.
If Arsenal win the league then obviously you deserve it but I cant see it myself and I think this result will just give more sense of expectation from the fans that in the end will be left disapointed, like every year.

Yeah, thanks for the reality check, but I bet you wouldn't be here on our forum, if you'd just put 6 against another premier league team. Especially one that scored 4 unanswered last week

I don't think you followed Arsenal last season. Otherwise you should realise that Arsenal were rocked by massive injuries. It got so bad that against Barcelona in Spain Arsenal had their best 7 players missing. If our luck changes on injuries I have no doubt we will win the league.

I'm not a huge Theo fan, bit of a headless chicken, however I always say he needs games. Whenever he get a run together he is a good player, but he is never one of those players that comes straight back form injury to top form, always takes him a run of games.

I know it was Blackpool and am not getting carried away with anything. We won at home, didn't concede, got some time under our belts and will move on to the next game. Perfect.

Nice to see Rosicky have a good game, Theo too.
Yes there coulda been more but credit to Blackpool they played some attractive footie, just a bit disorganised at the back.
The sending off AND penalty a little unlucky and as Holloway said it spoilt the game. Would have much preferred beating a good Blaackpool team than a slightly demoralised 10 men team.
Anyway this will do the squad a power of good, especially Walcott.

NIce positive result but like the OP I feel Arsenal could have made more of the scoreline, Still, it's only the second match of the season. If we can graft out results in some of the difficult matches to come, that will be the difference for us.

Surelt even the slinky Spuds won't fall down to this level. If your tax dodging manager can call you title favorites before even playing a single game, we can do so after winning 6-0 at home.

Now slither back to your own board and discuss how the ref got you 2 undeserved points.

I'll show Blackpool some respect here , as they deserve it.

They had a go had some good chances and worked hard.

We missed a few good ones and missed some passes
that should have been sharper.

However we are just a few players and a bit of sharpness away from competing with the top teams.

The lack of signing of a keeper and a CB + a DCM will keep us on the edge of our seats all season and probably be the talking point all season.

Just hope Ramsey , NB , Nasri all return fitter , stronger and with form so we can have a damn good go at this.

We may not have the resources of United Chelsea or City but we make up for that with the quality of our play which is hard to match.
===============================================
I do not agree with you on the first part of your statement. What do you mean? Man United are being crippled by debt. In fact the interest rate on their debts went up to 17.5% a few days ago. Chelsea, even with their debts wiped out by Roman Abramovich are still recording financial losses. Arsenal is steadily reducing its debts, and making profits. The reluctance to splash out the cash is due more to frugal behaviour than a lack of resources!
On today's game, it was refreshing to see such a clinical display from Arsenal, but I will not pop the champagne yet until the season heats up, and injuries and fatigue take their toll on all teams. If Arsenal are still able to deliver like they did today, then I will be hopeful that we can win the League. Finally, I would love to see Arsenal dispatch teams like Man Utd or Chelsea with similar ease. just like they have been doing to Arsenal in the last few years!

Just got back from the game.

Some of the chances we missed were mind boggling.

Chamakh missed two absolute sitters but worked hard and scored eventually, despite a poor display from him.

Rosicky was pulling the strings and Walcott terrorised them down the right.

I think the sending off was harsh and subsequently felt sorry for them, but in all honesty it could very easily have been 10, no exaggeration.

The Blackpool fans travel well and after making the long trip were still singing at the end of a total drubbing!

Well I'm not getting carried away with this result. It was job done that's all. Game was effectively over after the penalty and harsh sending off. I agree that we really should have scored even more, and that's not an exaggeration. We take our foot off the pedal too much sometimes, and that could cost us in tougher games to come.

Theo was our most dangerous player today. I hope he can build on this and have a good season. The crowd were right behind him. Song did well at CB. Wilshere struggled a bit today, like he was trying too hard. Chamakh got his goal in the end but really should've got a couple earlier. Hope he improves.

And a big up to the Blackpool fans. They sung throughout despite whatever the score was at the time.

The difference between an Arsenal 6 nil and a Chelsea 6 nil is that Arsenal do it with flair but are wasteful whereas Chelsea are more direct and far more clinical.

The best we can hope for is 3rd place. Not saying we are not good enough but rather we have a team which is too injury prone. A fully fit squad is more than capable of beating the best it's just i cant remember the last time we had one.

6-0 is a great result, but when you consider the chances we had we could easily have made double figures. Felt sorry for Blackpool, it was all to easy for us after the card.

But we must keep our fett on the ground, playing 10-man Blackpool will arguably be the easiest situation we're going to find ourselves in all season. It's fixtures like the one next week away to Blackburn which will really prove our title credentials.

It's going to be tough, we may have to really dig in next week and then we'll have a better idea of how capable we are of winning the title

Are you off your nut?? we've no chance of winning the league, even a top 4 finish would be an over achievement. Arsenal have been on the decline since 2004 while other teams are constantly improving, looks like we're following in the footsteps of Liverpool. Wait til we play a team who pose a threat and expose the frailties of the defence and see what our in-experienced team does against seasoned pro's.

At first, respect for wenger and his imaginative use of song as a central defender. I think it could work and should be further tested. second, the game was nice to look at and the starting line up should look like today at the end. except with walcott and arshavin. and without clichy. He is the absolute weakness of the team and that is against stronger opponents are even more apparent than today. Finally, I like the play and movement of Wilshere and Chamakh and I think they should play regulary and Rosicky and, or arshavin make much less circus than nasri and bring much more for the game. So instead of clichy should play gibbs and nasri only as a substitute and everything will be fine.

Agreed about Clichy, he was the weak point today. Whatever little joy Blackpool got was down his side, with Clichy getting either caught out of position or rolled.

Gibbs must be at least in contention this season to fight for the left-back position.

Holloway saying some of Arsenal's football was "world class" is hysterical. he seriously thinks that Arsenal required world class football to beat them today ?
They were far better than Blackpool, clearly, but trying to put a world class gloss on it just highlights how far Arsenal still have to go before they get within spitting distance of Barcelona.

| complain about this comment

posted Aug 21, 2010

Perhaps Mr Holloway was over egging the cake, with his world class comment, but he should be praised, his team came to the Emirates to play us at our own game, no packed defence, no needless fouling or intimidation and they were well beaten, but a credit to the game, wait until Stoke, Birmingham, Blackburn and I suspect under Mark hughes, Fulham and the darker side of the Pl will be revealed, still 6-0 will do for a start and although he only put one in, Chamack certainly looks as if he will put that right as soon as he settles in.

posted Aug 21, 2010

I think Holloway was brave but naive, Blackpool were far too often left open and are too slow to play this type of football. Arsenal will find it harder against teams who are defensive and good at set pieces. I think the football is fine but the power may be lacking

For all the Walcott-haters, you can only beat what's put in front of you, and he undoubtedly ran Blackpool ragged.

Arsenal looked very nice, but the lack of speed and positional awareness of the Blackpool back four made it a lot easier for them.

After yesterday, i expect a lot of teams going 4-3-3 against Blackpool, with the front three all interchanging, with one or two more coming from deep. Expect Tottenham to absolutely batter them. That's when they look their best, and I'm no Spurs fan believe me!

For the second week running Arsenal's task is made easier by having one of their opponents sent off. And we are only two matches in. Arsenal fans, management and staff have to wake up. We are no contenders with the goalkeeper position almost as a taunt for neurotic and desperate fans for title. Arsene Wenger´s youth evolution should be at its peak and now that most of them have grown into fully developed players, Wenger needs to find established players that kiss one gold coin or so.

Arsenal managed a draw on anfield, with all of second half a man up. Im glad that Joe C wasnt kicked off earlier, that would probably have given them moment instead of killing it so near halftime. Blackpool we would have beaten anyways, I think.

Arsenal´s problem is that we cant afford any injuries because it seems the sub players cant pick it up as 90min players. Arsenal´s second problem is that it has an Oliver Twist syndrome and seem to think that they cant afford to a goalkeeper.

Gunners wont win without a stable goalkeeper.

My arguement is more a case of if you dont identify your weaknesses and deal with them then how can you expect to improve and keep winning titles. It's quite blatant we have not improved as much as other teams around us and why be so tight on the goal keeper front? Good keepers tend to stay around with a club so spending a decent amount of money to get the best keeper on the market is not such a bad move, instead we keep fluttering on £2Million offers for middle of the road keepers when the best will solve a lot of our problems and keep the defence under control. I'm just not one to pretend everything is OK and keep going hoping for the best, personally I prefer to face up to things and eliminate the problem, the good things always have a tendency to look after themselves

The reason why you haven’t won anything in the last 5 years is that you haven’t been good enough IN SPITE of pretty much every dubious refereeing decision and bounce of the ball going in your favour. Get a half decent team and an honourable manager and you’ll sweep the board.
