But Murray can't beat Federer at HC slams, so Federer is a better HC player than Murray. Great article for a change mate!

Hey Football, now we're singing from the same hymn sheet, I wonder when Nadal's first MTO will be in this match? Will he even have time to try that gambit?

Have to admit, he does pretty much have the upper hand on hardcourt now..

What will this prove if Federer comes through and beats Djoko and then Murray though? Will you give Feds any credit FM? ;)

some rafa fans (not rafa himself..he's humble) cited tiredness in 08 us open SF and injury in the 09 australian open QF as contributory factors towards their man's defeat..but today, there are not excuses. murray has simply outplayed rafa..

I think Murray is the best hardcourt player in the world at this point in time. But the next time he makes a GS final, he has to play like he actually believes it, not in the tentative manner he performed in the previous two, particularly in Australia.

good performance from Murray, however his very low 1st serve percent is worrying. If he could get it to around 60% he will win a grand slam one day.

Murray played great but his opponent has one way and it isn't a problem for Murray on fast courts.

He would have more difficulty against federer or Djokovic, who play with more variety.

"why would he when he has no injury worries for sometime"

?

Tell that to a certain Mr Philipp Petzschner after the Wimbledon 3rd round. Nadal was in all sorts of trouble with his health one minute, then...well, you know the rest, Footy. MTO to the rescue! :)

On the basis of this one tournament? To be honest I think that can only be said on the basis of this one match. But if he carries on playing like this, he has a really good chance for the title.

On the basis of having the best record on hard courts last year, and smashing nadal, yet again, thoadd to the Aus final. Grown up racist Murray hater.

Good play from Andy Murray tonight - especially considering that he couldn't buy a first serve much of the time.

But let's not overheat (and I agree with Bogbrush in that respect). After all, it is almost eighteen months since Rafael Nadal has beaten a Top-8 ranked player on hard courts. The drought continues, notwithstanding his stellar achievements between April and July.

Nadal´s defeat, as I correctly predicted(see my article "Murray-Nadal"), will do nothing to affect his chances of winning the USO.

His strategy to take it easy (not trying his maximum)today is the right one -- why should one risk injuries for a Mster 1000 which he already won twice?

USO is different, it is a GS, which everyone tries his maximum. If Nadal got to the semis with a abdominal tear in 2009, only losing to the eventual champion, the healthier Nadal this year to go a few steps further is no exaggeration.

Nadal will win the USO 2010. Prepare your bet!

On the basis of LAST year's harcourt record? You obviously don't understand the words "at THIS point in time" <doh>

You are obviously a Murray fan boy, anyone who doesn't hail him as a god is a hater. Where did racism come into it? I actually have a Murray in my family you fool.

Fact is last year, how many hard court slams did he win? None. At the astralian Open this year he did indeed beat rafa... but who won the title? Yeah Federer not Andy. How well did he do in Indian Wells and Miami? And how well did he play against Monfils in this tournament?

Ok I revise my statement, it's on the basis of his last TWO matches. But no more.

And you WUM, I said if he does continue the form then he will be hard to beat, so I gave him credit. But saying he is the best on the basis of two matches is a little premature

"On the basis of this one tournament?"

Murray has a winning record against Federer, Djokovic, Del Potro and Roddick on h/c, and has won 4 of the last 5 against Nadal on h/c. I certainly think he's capable of winning the USO if he's able to play his best tennis on the biggest occasion, like Del Potro last year.

Federer is the probably the best Hard Court player. But Murray is a close 2nd.

Murray has beaten Nadal 4 times out of the last 5 on hard courts, it's the other surfaces where Nadal destroys Murray.

I think that we have to get things in perspective here. Nadal leads Murray 8-0 on Grand Slam wins, and even 1-0 on HC Slams. Not taking anything away from Murray, as he has bundles of talent and potential but on the Grand Slam circait he still has to step up to a line that Nadal already crossed as a young teenager.

Away from all the extremely boring 'will he wont't he' that people on here insist on having whenever murray has a result of note - always either a really good or bad one - murray played very well last night and i think people should just enjoy that rather than argue nonsense. Good luck to him against federer, i do think that if he doesn't put too much pressure on himself to beat federer and fed doesn't play like he did set first/second set AO final murry will probably win... Which incidently would be an extremly impresive feat that may be the greatest of his career so far. By that i mean beating nadal fed back to back.

Firstly what has being top 5 got to do with being the best hard court player at this moment? The 2 don't relate. There are 5 top 5 players, they're not ALL the best hardcourt player. You can't even understand plain English <doh> I never said he wasn't a good player, I questioned him being declared the best hardcourt player on the basis of two matcxhes. As I said, Nalbandian was the best last week. For pete's sake, you have to base who is playing best over a couple of weeks not two matches.

Secondly, I have as much Scottish blood as I do English and I hate Man U. Your conclusions are hilarious. You're obviously a scot who can't take that anyone does not worship Andy. Grow up mate. He is a very good player but it's crazy to declare anyone the best on Hardcourt this early into the hardcourt season when no-one has had an outstanding week (Murray has played well in 2 matches but not the whole week)
