World Cup live - day 18

posted Jun 28, 2010

I find it curious that people say of England players "They didn't look interested out there."

When players from other countries appear this way, people say they are not very good players.

I mean, surely the pen, having writ, moves on?

None of the English squad have any claim to being good players, based on the evidence. OK, newspapers need circulation and nationalists need heros.

But the evidence is what it is. Drew against USA and Algeria, 1-0 against a country most people don't even know exists. Then lost to a German youth team, by 3 goals.

It is what it is.

@We all follow United: Exactly, the teams that England struggled against in the group stage aren't even Premiership class, let alone Champions League. It would be different if they played Brazil or Argentina or Spain, but how can Algeria be considered a "step up" from Premier League class even if there is more pressure to perform at the World Cup?

It's my opinion ref error changed the game. If they had given Lampards goal the Score would have been 4: 2 instead of 4:1

And that would have made much difference really <cheers>

<laugh> Not necessarily.

If Lampard's goal counted, it could have changed the complexion of the match therefore changing the result of the match.

But Germany 100% deserved that comfortable victory and England could have been four goals down by half-time.

They were lucky it wasn't any worse <ok>

The thing is that team still looks short when compared to the Germans for example.

Walcott and Agbonlahor are examples of players who really should be in Athletics rather than in football. Pace, decent finish and nothing else. If that's what makes a good footballer than Usain Bolt would be better than Maradonna.

Ozil and Muller are examples of players who are young and but have such quality on the ball as well as a footballing brain.

Muller when looking him, you would think would be pants but he is anything but that!

The only young players i have seen recently that may go that next further instead of being a kick it 10 yards forward and out pace the defender are

Jack Wilshere, Daniel Sturridge and Adam Johnson.

Walcott/Lennon and Agbonlahor i dont really see as players that will be absolute class at the world stage.

WE CARE THAT ROONEY WILL GET RESTED AND SPEND SOME FREE TIME WITH HIS FAMILY AWAY FROM FOOTBALL AND UNAPPRECIATING ENGLAND FANS.

NEXT SEASON HE WILL GET RESTED MORE BY SAF AND OWEN/HERNANDEZ WILL BE BACKING HIM UP..

F ENGLAND FOREVER!

NEVER (HAVE) NEVER WILL WIN THE WC IN THE NEXT 20 YEARS WE KNOW THIS MUCH..

VIVA LA ROONEY!
------------

Spot on on both your posts. Rooney played his heart out for a lost cause. I am chuffed that at least the lad will be rested for the new season. Can't wait for the EPL season to kick-off.

Afternoon. :) Netherlands are one up, Robben the scorer, but your boys are holding their own. The coach went for 4-2-4 which is pretty adventurous, but it seems to be nullifying much of the dutch work, aside from Robben's moment of genius.

It is sad to see England go out. The team played awful throughout and hopefully the FA will get down to getting the country a team to be proud of. I don't blame the players, they were not good enougH and to expect them to perform on that stage without the bonus of the foreign players beside them that they play with every week is asking too much. Every time we get kicked out of a tournament with inept performances we say things have got to change, but they don't. Maybe now "The wally with the brolly" did his best for a fraction of the cost of Fabio and with the same players! Worth thinking about starting the next campaign with the under 21's. At least they will work their socks off(at a fraction of the cost)

Thierry Henry used to depend on pace until he developed his all round game. Football now is pace. Walcott. Lenon and Agbonlahor are still young and will become World class if they really want to. What does Klose have except Strength, Speed.

Now that you have actually made your username about England, do you accept that you will come across as more than a little obssessed?

---------------------

Obsesssed? I am passing the time betrween doing complex financial reports at work by ripping it out of the precious, arrogant England fans on here.

I'm also making some very valid, inciteful analysis of the problems I knew existed long before this World Cup.

You are one of the biter I have had in my net all afternoon. I always throw tiddlers back but you keep biting every time.

------------------------

Away and lie down. Klose is slower than me. The only people he is faster than are Terry and Upson.

Touch, control and vision are as important as pace. Does Javier Macherano have pace?

Every team needs to have a good balance; youngs & experienced, pace & strenghth, touch & vision and most importantly, half a football brain.

Silly boy.

I do not dislike anyone or anything because they are English with the sole exception of England's national football team and their fans. Not hatred, just football rivalry. I wish no-one any harm, I am sure you are a nice (but dim) lad.

Today, and maybe tommorrow, I am going to very much enjoy laughing at the expense of the England team and fans.

You see, when you get it rammed down your throat 24/7 by the British Broadcasting Corporation, every othe media outlet, radio shows and phone ins, 606 and othe messageboards, it becomes a tad tedious.

Now, I can enjoy the rest of the World Cup <laugh>
