Who's seen the odds from SkyBet for World Cup winner?

14/1 for Germany
25/1 for Portugal

Very generous! Definitely worth a punt!

Predos:
England 1-2 Germany (AET)

Good morning to "The Kaiser". I hope Franz slept well, enjoyed a hearty breakfast, and is ready for the game, punditry in full flow. One can only envisage he must be excited about today's game, and ready to indulge in a little humble pie with a cup of tea should England prevail.

Contrary to many comments in the last few days, i can see Mexico giving Argentina a run for their money. I don't think "Maradona's men" are a certainty for progression by any means.

From Cape Town, SA. Big fan of Spain. Think England v Germany is a cracker. I expect England to perform well, Germany have unpredictability about their young squad which could be dangerous for England. Tough to call. 1 goal could decide this. Argentina definitely to go through. No Doubt. Period

Beating Germany on penalties and then beating Argentina courtesy of an unspotted handball? Priceless. Got a feeling that Mexico are going to prevent that possibility though. Their pacey passing game is one of the best at this competition.

I want a classic 3-3 draw in normal time.4-4 in extra time and 17-16 in the penalty shoot out. That should be the football equivalent of Isner v Mahut.

Unbelievable! England underperform their way into the knock-out stage, are pilloried by the English media at every turn.... but now? The Germans are scared. We're going to do this... we're going to do that. Sorry, but I really hope England do get through, on penalties... then Messi wipes the floor with them ;)

We've got to get the first goal in otherwise we'll just get demoralised and give up. If we let Germany get the first goal, it's all over for us.

You can do it England, you can bloody do it!

I'm really excited about today. I wasn't lookiing forward to the Slovenia game at all, it was a gut-clenching, nervous, pessimistic moment. From now on though every potential England game seems exciting. England v Germany just sounds brilliant, then if we get through there are potential match ups with Argentina, Spain and Brazil. I don't feel despondant that we are in a tough side of the draw, all those games are games I would happily and excitedly sit down and watch. Its not about getting one over on old "enemies" its about watching a game of football and hoping for some good memories. Cheers!

Going down the pub to watch this, cheering the boys on forever and ever!!!

I'm nervous and confident at the same time! Germany are certainly not unbeatable and because of their defence I'm going for a 3-1 Enland win, with Rooney setting the world alight with a brace!

Come on England!!!!!!

I've decided to take this opportunity to insult the Americans. <ok>

''I am willing to love all of mankind, except for the American.''

''The 100% American is 99% idiot.''

''No one can be as calculatedly rude as the British, which amazes Americans, who do not understand studied insult and can only offer abuse as a substitute''.

''If you go to America, bring your own food.''

''Question: If you find so much that is unworthy of reverence in the United States, why do you live here?
Mencken: Why do men go to zoos? ''

I'm still convinced that the unexperienced Germany squad might not handle the pressure ahead of this match and get a reallity check from an experienced England team. Just like Arsenal against Chelsea.

ok, todays game will be won by Germany, they have been a far better team over the 3 games played so far... but, as James Greaves once said.... "It's a funny old Game"

I just tested the oracle octopus' prediction of a Germany win with the household pets. Sad to say both cats and the dog chose the screwed up tissue that represented Germany over the one that represented England. I do hope they are wrong!

Preparing for another long night- I'm becoming nocturnal! I'm in New Zealand and these 3pm matches are on from 2am-4am for us. Thank goodness I'm a student and can sleep in!

Fast forward 7 hrs or so.

Germany have beaten England quite comfortably 2-0. England never seemed to get out of the nervous starting blocks they've been rooted to since the first game, except for some futile pressure late in the match.

Germany on the other hand rose to the occasion. They were physically stronger and began to lace themselves together as they showed they could do against Australia.

So England head all too early for the airport and the mandatory media post-mortem on Capello's decision-making and the squad's poor performance overall as well as their propensity to wilt under the international spotlight.

Germany progress to meet either Argentina or Mexico in the Quarter Final.

That looks the most likely scenario to me. Could you live with it?

alot is being made about big match experience but if it goes by that didnt most of this german team play and get to finals of the euros 2years ago? yes the same tournement england failed to qualify 4, and prior to that germany were 6 minutes or so from taking the worst penalty taking side ever(italy) to a shootout in the world cup semi final.

The game 2day wont be about skill, abilty, technical brilliance etc but just basically i feel about who wants it more, i dnt expect a glorious footballing specticle anyway

my prediction england 1-2 germany

germany taking the a 2-0 lead in the 1st 30mins with england getting 1 late and the germans holding on

I see no reason why England will not beat Germany today. The pressure is all on the Germans. I f I were in that dressing room today i would be petrified that players like Rooney, Gerrard, Lampard were going to explode and really step up their games.
Man for man I think we're better. Germany are very good attacking but I fancy Terry and hopefully Upson to be strong and commanding.

The biggest problem, as always with England is mental. If we can convince ourselves that we have a better team than Germany and are capable of beating them, then I see us winning. Please let us play with some arrogance, fire out of the blocks and hit them hard fast and early.
We are far too often pedestrian starters and Germnay will punish us if that trend continues.

Like I said, if I were playing in this game I would much prefer to be an England player. I see 3 or 4 potential game changing players in the England side. For Germany I'm not so convinced. Urzil? Podolski? All containable in my opinion.
