BBC story has no quotes and no facts. So don't believe it just yet.

Unlike the BBC, normally they wait until confirmation before reporting it. But it seems they've just put the story up becuase the Guardian were saying the same thing.

Obviously I did. It's just a question of his wages. If he had accepted the offer we made him, which I don't know what it was, then he would've signed before the start of WC. I thought Manu were just a red herring really.

Cole is a cockney barrow boy hommie. That's why he's going to a London team. Spurs or Arsenal, bet he would even consider Orient before United.

Can you imagine him and Mrs C pulling on their braces, living in the frozen north?

Considering we have two new faces in it, no it does not.

And considering the transfer window is still open for two months, I would say you are a bit premature with this incorrect statement.

More worryingly, Arsenal signing Cole was a Daily Star exclusive literally only a couple of days after the premier league season ended. Does this mean they might actually be getting transfer rumours right!?

I will consider them to actually be members of our first team squad if they make more than a few cammeo substitute aoppearances next season. In the case of Hernandez, this could happen, although Mexico don't start him. As for Smalling, I really hope he doesn't feature much in the squad.

And what Sir Alex considers and what Sir Alex says may not be the same thing. Only the most stubborn and stupid fans do not realise this. Tosic was a United player but he was not a member of our squad because he didn't feature in it. Obertan hasn't proven himself to be a member of our squad as he doesn't feature in it regularly, likewise Diouf. That's why I mentioned "genuine" in my first post. Players who are only at the club to make up the numbers are not genuine first team squad members.

True but I think the point was that signing players who won't play isn't going to help us regain the title.

I hope Hernandez gets a chance, he looks sharp and took his goal agains France very well. Also hope Evra doesn't come back a broken man after the craziness of the French camp.

How is Man United a place for old players, what because we brought in OWEN at 29/30 years of age for cover? Wonder if you said the same when we brought in Larson as cover or Teddy Sherringham.

Last season we signed 3 players, one was 24, one 20 and the other 29.

This season so far we've got Chris Smalling and that young Mexico striker Hernandez, both very young.

Bar VDS, the rest of our experienced players are all of our own academy. Silly comment.

As for the United team, we are like one decent midfielder short of a top team.

-------------VDS-------------
Rafel----Rio----Vidic----Evra
-----Anderson---Fletcher-----
----------NEW PLAYER---------
Valencia-----------------Nani
------------Rooney-----------

^ with a top creative or attacking midfielder would do some serious damage. J.cole could do that role but if it was someone better then even more so.

I'm glad! I didn't want Joe Cole coming to United. Don't get me wrong, he's a great player on his day, but so was Owen. Last thing United need is another highly paid injury prone sub on their bench! That's what cost us the title last year. We need experience and quality but NOT Joe Cole!

Cole turned down Chelsea cause we wouldn't pay him more than 80k a week (he was demanding 120k) - If I remember correctly, Fabregas is only on 70k a week and he's their top earner! No way would Wenger offer Joe Cole more than 70k a week. If Man U aren't gonna make a bit that leaves Spurs and Man City (possibly liverpool but unlikely) - Spurs already have a lot of attacking mids in Modric, Kranjcar, Lennon and Bentley so might not feel the need to sign another attacking mid. I can see Joe Cole in man city colours next season as SWP isn't good enough for them anymore, Petrov's on his way out and Ireland may well be leaving! Man City will also be more than happy to pay him 120k a week, and he's pretty obviously a money-grabber

I hope this story is wrong, i'd be disappointed if we don't make a move for Cole. Nani performed much better last season when on the right, and Cole can play well on the left and is creative enough to support Rooney. SAF seems happy to keep playing Giggs and Scholes and legends though they are, they can't play forever.

Yes but Valencia played superbly on the right and created a lot of Rooney's goals. Nani is better than Cole as well so where exactly would Cole have fitted in? Apart from earning 100'000+ a week on the bench?

Cole going to Arsenal is a dreadful backward step for him. He is not an Arsenal type of player and he will be sorry if he becomes a gooner. Man City would be his best bet as we are going to win the lot this year while the sad, tired reds will watch Rooney suffer because of the weight of expectation on him. Bye bye reds, see you in another decade or so, it's between us and Chelsea now...

So Chelsea don't want him, nor do Man Utd, and Arsenal wouldn't be able to afford his wages (as he was on 80k at Chelsea and they won't pay any player more than 70k a week), so that means it'll be a tussle between Spurs and City for his services. Either club would be a good mover, certainly a better one than joining United or Arsenal. If he wants to be near his family and play in the CL next season then it's Spurs, but if he wants to get out of his comfort zone more then it's City. Either move will be good for him though, and he'll get more chances in the first team that if he were to go to Arsenal or United.
