Live - World Cup day 13

I think it was a waste of time putting LENNON on as an out and out winger, he can`t cross a ball to save his life, I think putting MILNER in is a smart idea, as we have GLEN JOHNSON bombing forward, he can cross.

as an irishman whose world cup has already been made (thank you south africa,mexico and uruguay,you all did your parts immaculately), i have only this to say to england:win lose or draw,you absolutely have to put in a good performance today.apart from france youve been probably the most off-tune "big side" so far.ide like to see you well,but if it means watching games like england v algeria again,then no thanks.

play up england!

The only person i feel sorry for is Peter Crouch.

His goal record for England is astonishing!

I agree.

The Italians have been shambolic.

They really lack creativity & spark.

There is no energy & buzz about them.

I beginning to think Lippi is regretting not taking Cassano or Balotelli or BOTH!!!

A "pundit" of quality is someone who can articulate their own experiences and give an insight into what is being seen by the viewer. This should also be someone who has been successful during either their playing or managerial career;

Mick McCarthy;
Player
Played 2 years in Division 4
Joined Manchester City, relegated.
Joined Lyon, came back after 8 months
Loaned to Millwall, relegated

Manager;
Millwall, relegated
ROI; failed to qualify for World cup twice, then Roy Keene!
Sunderland; relegated (twice) Lowest points ever achieved in Premiership
Wolverhampton Wanderers; the story continues…

Career record as a manager; Win 40.74%

But the main problem with the BBC coverage is not the facile comments of commentators, or their monotonous tones. Why is the BBC promoting regional accents in preference to ones that can be understood? Have you ever heard any of the American channels using Commentators from the Bronx or the deep south? There's a reason for this… The audience needs to understand what is being said. Give MM and Colin Murray their own show on Radio 9 and get some talent of the quality of Lee Dixon in to join Hansen, Lineker and Shearer.

Too much emphasis being placed on formation and starting Emile Heskey based on the Algeria game. As ive said before- Heskey and the formation did not create a complete inability to pass the ball 2 yards or control the ball.
This was the same formation and personnel used in qualifying that worked so well.

Why are people so focused on Capello's stubborness, his 4-4-2, his refusal to pick Joe Cole etc.

The real problem is that the England team collectively have been unable to pass to a team mate or control the ball. Sort that out and we have a good chance.

I guess you are judging by one performance then ?....

Have you seen many of his prem performances over the last 18 months ... his crossing is very good these days... very good

Stop judging over one performnce

At least with Defoe in the team we will have to start playing the ball to feet and passing it around a bit. Heskey and Crouch in the team resorts to long ball and aimlessly hoofing it up the pitch and then fans wonder why Rooney isn't performing.

If he's playing Defoe from the start, then I'd go with Crouch up front & Rooney on the bench. 2 reasons - firstly on recent form he should be dropped; secondly whenever SAF has done it he gets an angry/positive reaction from Rooney. Defoe & Rooney aren't a productive combination, Crouch & Defoe are....still the time for analysis is nearly over, all we can do is hope the lads do their country proud. Come on England!!!!!!

No offence mate, yes they beat Algeria, but should have lost to USA who had a perfectly legit goal ruled out, but they are certainly not a top team....I would give Crouch a go, Heskey did nothing in the Algeria game!

But if it all goes pear shaped and they get a Korea style 7-0 thrashing, when the squad return home, there'll be no recriminations, no calls for a manager's head, but a welcome for the team that over-achieved by qualifying for their second tournament out of three, eliminating Russia and the Czech Republic along the way, and this time have shaken up their more fancied rivals.
=============================================

Utter nonsense.........we shall always believe in recriminations, its the only pleasure left for the poor fans who have to endure 50 hour back breaking weeks in jobs paying 300 quid a week.......... while these rich millionaire prima donnas cruise around in their flashy cars , mounting every good looking woman they can, and then turn up to play like a pub team.

If we cant enjoy the public humiliation of these arrogant and overpaid millionaires.....
