they only get what they deserve though, what a farce of a group of players, ridiculous on and off the pitch, what a bufoon of a coach, what an era to forget. Good luck to laurent blanc

Nice. Saying Greece are like Wimbledon gets you deleted. Not sure what rule that broke when 95% of the posts here are taking the mick out of some team or other.

it was because of trapattoni's conservative tactics that ireland failed to qualify like playing two defensive mid field players at home when france were there for the taking and not even picking andy reed .

I can see England topping the group and getting to the SF. We will probably meet Serbia / Ghana in the next round - beatable, then Uruguay or Greece/Nigeria/S Korea in the QF - aain beatable. Simples.

I genuinely thought US game would be a draw, didnt expect Algeria game result but always thought England could beat Slovenia as our record against these type of European teams is very good.
Firmly believe we will qualify, winning 2-0

Before the world cup, Blanc probably though he had an easy job following Domenech. Now he has the challenge of rebuilding the entire national team from scratch in time for Euro qualifiers. Good Luck with that.

Have to say, the Gourcuff red card was a joke. Are players meant to jump with their arms by their sides these days?

Good to see South Africa finish with a win, I'll avoid any France-baiting until tomorrow's out the way though

I will always support England regardless of how good (or bad) they have been playing.

But based on the past 2 (5) games can you really honestly say that ANY opposition is easy?

Because I know I couldnt

Ireland didn't qualify because of a hand. They played well and aproached both games well.
France have got what they deserved.

Well played Uruguay - I thought they'd do well at this World Cup. You can't ignore their strikers goal scoring record. Suarez & Forlan have been consistent all season. Suarez has a phenomenal record (albeit in Dutch league naysayers) & Forlan has habit of scoring those important goals. QF place or better?

Also, top prize for the best comedy beard at the World Cup. Their defender Maurcio Victorino is sporting a superb Jimmy Hill-esque (circa 1970s) chin wig. Quality! http://latercera.com/contenido/656_164539_9.shtml

Only wish I'd put more than £30 on Argentina to win...

England always play better (or at least with more aggressive intent)when they have a sense of grievance, 'Backs to the Wall' is all we've ever known since 1970 (during which time we haven't evne made it twice. But it could be marvellous homegrown psychology.

Goodbye for the rest of the tournament. Goodluck to you all.
Whoever wins I hope you do so fairly.
But for me despite hoping Brazil win the tournament, I have had my result, FRANCE OUT.
How it happenned is by-the-by, but lets face it demonstrative of what the FFF and UEFAs president deserve.

If my french was any good I would sign off with one of those invasive sayings that suggests bitter-sweetness. Fortunately this seems the most appropriate on the 606 board goodluck

all the ex french players and managers are having a pop in the french press, it's amazing to read minute by minutes

evra is carrying on his martyr role and still not realising how embarassing his behavior is, he is still talking about traitors and leaks and the decision to send anelka home. When will he realise that he has been the worst captain in the worst french team ever? this guy needs a serious reality check

lets try again. Former European Champions Greec, man for man probably the most skillful team in the tournament, take on Argentina. Any of these Greek players would woalk into the top European club sides in Europe and their energetic attacking play has set the tournament alight already.

Hows that?

England: I have a feeling will go either the damp squib route or the 'total annihilation of the opposition' route. Depends if fabio manages to get the boys onside again, so lordie knows.

France: Weird, but only the french heh.

SWP: Why?

Joe Cole: Why not? For crying out loud, nothing else works, and whilst he's not a starter for Chelsea and hasn't been for years, he's probably the most maverick and creative choice that England have.

Didier: Please don't ruin him sadface

JT: Too honest. Answered questions he should probably have sidestepped. A slimey politician would have avoided them, but he's a fairly simple kinda guy, and gave brutal honesty, sometimes the truth hurts.

The real damage done to the French team's chances of progressing was inflicted by the team wearing green - Mexico.

As Domenech would agree - poetic!

What a contradiction in terms fabio capello is

On the one hand he says he wants England to pass their way up the pitch,

whilst on the other hand he recalls Jamie Carragher to the squad..... a player who only knows one way to clear his lines.....the big punt upfield.

Charisteas! One of the all time LEGENDS!!!

He had great aerial ability be it hold up play or heading.

If Matt Derbyshire stays in Greece for another 3 & half years - will he be eligible to play for Greece!

still it's impossible for the public to know what exactly is happening behind the scenes, but at leastt this public apology Tery made should bring him in good terms with the Manager. So England at lest haven't followed France in self destruction off or on the pitch and they have no losses so far.

yet you are making most of the comments!!

sport takes a new dimension in a massive economical crisis, when a lot of people are losing their jobs, it gives them something to chher up for, to bring a bit of hope to their life and to forget all the hardship they are facing

do not underestimate sports

why do you think cameron seems so keen to be associated with the WC, going as far as having the st george cross above number ten and recording his own little message for the english team

sport is the opiate of the masses

England fans! Get this in your head! You're not going to win this World Cup. You're not going to win a game this World Cup. You are honestly the most vain, pompous fans out there with the most overpaid, overhyped players on the planet!

Wayne Rooney is a decent footballer who had great form for a while but completely fizzled out and remains fizzled out! STOP GOING ON ABOUT HIM 'MAKING HIS MARK' AS HE IS NOT GOING TO DO THAT! Before this season his best league tally was 12 goals!

I am delighted to see France going home, not because they are France, but because of the outrageous behaviour of their players. They were a disgrace to their country and the conduct of the team as a whole was an embarrassment to the host country who is doing its best to put on a good tournament! Au revoir France, you shouldn't have been here in the first place.
