Wasn't my first choice. Better value available at a younger age.

Why are we not getting him? I was expecting 40-50 million but for 34 million!! We should be bidding for him at least. Its the same price that we pretty much bid for Benzema last summer. I can't believe how cheap hes gone for.

To be honest im not suprised by the price tag, he is 28 so its big money for someone who has possibly only got 2/3 years in his prime left.

Hopefully with the price tag it will lower alot of other inflated prices around.

Idiots were linking him to Old Trafford. He is one of these players who simply doesn't want to leave his own country. He was never coming to England.

no he said he would consider a move to england and we were his preferred choice over the other english clubs

That was to give him leverage over RM/Barca.

I have a feeling England was his last choice.

I never believed for a second that we were in for Villa. 35m for a 28 year old whose game relies on pace? Fergie has always preferred to go with younger players.

I did, however, expect him to go to Real Madrid, which would have probably made either Higuain or Benzema available. It does now seem unlikely that Real are going to let either of them go.

No he didn't want to join Manchester United, big headed fans.

He didn't even want to leave Valencia, but their finances and new stadium means they had to sell to remain in existence.

You simply don't have the money to splash on players like Villa, considering your debt, ownership uncertainty and interest payments.

I'm actually surprised you haven't rallied behind Fergie - he clearly realises he needs to sign a few players who will be at the club for 7-8 years. Not go for the here and now.

He never wanted to join Man Utd, he made it 100% clear 2 years ago his first choice was to stay in Spain...you'd think since Valencia have been in debt for 2 years and if he wanted to join Utd, it would of happened.

ManU was his last resort, he would have stayed at Valencia fist - no one in their right mind would swop all that sun for all that rain, especially if he's 'attached'.

Arsenal fancy a little bit of Ibra up front, but does anyone really expect a player like him to flourish in the hardest most competitive league in Europe? That's rhetorical by the way.

It's quite simple really, we don't have money to spend (well the Glaziers won't sanction it while we have such massive debts). It's not rocket science.

Let's be honest, £34 million is a bargain compared to what they splashed out on Ibrhaimovic. Ibrahimovic was only a year younger, a far less talented football player and cost about €30 million more...

Wanted to join United?

>>>

"I only want to go to Barca," Villa told Barcelona's technical director Txiqui Begiristain at a secret meeting, the Catalan sports paper Mundo Deportivo said.

He said "that there are only two alternatives: to agree on his transfer to Barca or he is ready to see out his contract with Valencia," the daily Sport reported.

Yes. Clearly desperate.

not that disappointed tbh, good player but 28 is too old for that price. If manu are going to spend that kind of money on their 'one more player for the summer' it would be better spent on someone younger, like for example Aguero

Presuming you met Mr Villa, perhaps down the pub, and heard that he "wanted to join us" - straight from the horses'...?

Or you simply believe what agents feed the press...and all the resulting speculation. Bit easily led.

It's a fantastic deal imo. £34.2M in today's market is a bargain. I don't buy this ''what a hefty amount for a 28 year old'' He's a lethal striker, he will improve their attacking in the final third even more!

They signed Ibra for 45M AND Eto'o, this is an absolutely bargain compared to that. Can't believe it's similar to Berba's price tag.

thats what i was saying, he would only consider a move if barca or madrid didn't come knocking. he didn't want to move to england but had to be willing to if no one wanted him, but that was never going to be the case. maybe if ibrahimovic and benzema and maybe henry had, had good seasons then it couldve been a possibility but it was wishful thinking

...............................................

Erm ok then. So Villa also doesn't have flair, technique, deadly finishing, great first touch, link up play, creativity and agility? He's a little weak and quite poor in the air because he's small, but other than that he's probably the best all round striker in world football, and in my opinion better than Torres who many think is the best striker in the Premier League when fit. You missed out I would say.

Haha Villa was never going to come to England, when the time came for Valencia to cash in on him Madrid and Barca were always going to head the queue. For a player who scores as many goals as he does either of those clubs would have paid whatever it took to get his signature. He's basically got to choose who he wanted to sign for and he's chosen Barca. Maybe he'd have been happy playing for United but no way were they his first choice.

------------------------------

As were Arsenal & Liverpool fans, some of whom have also claimed this position.

Unless its Chelsea or Man City, 'English football' in general is not an attractive destination for big foreign players because of our ever more oppressive tax situation - It's that simple. Because they are bankrolled, Chelsea and City are the only clubs that can afford to take the tax hit for these players.

Think about it, if Manchester United - the most well known of all the English clubs - is not attractive, who would be were it not for the billionaire owners?

BTW United do not need '4 world class' players. There aren't that many truly world class players to go around.

like i said in a previous post, just give them la liga, perhaps even now with this addition, now imagine if they could find the funds for Fabregas and possibly Torres.

Still whilst it might be unfair for the rest of the teams in la liga next season, im going to have to make extra sure i watch barcelona play because they will score goals and lots of them

Barca are a strange team. Essentially they have just parted with around £70 million, just to end up where they started. A Samuel Eto'o type player. The world and his mother knew that was a silly deal, and it's no surprise a season on, they are offering Ibra to clubs. They could've saved themselves a lot of time, and money if they just kept Samuel. Villa will score a shed load, and his quality is not in doubt, it's just a strange deal for me.

I gotta say,

I'm happy for him personally, he is a fantastic player and he has always showed Loyalty to Valencia and gave 110% when perhaps many would not have done the same.

If Barca grab Torres as well as Cesc then the rest have no chance, Real Madrid will have to create a Deloren with a Flux Capiticor and bring back Best from the 60s and Maradonna from the 80s!!
